J's stable is more square than a normal size. At the back is a stable door into my storage area.

I am on snowflake softchip and I know it has to be deep to work.

I did have it over on the left side leaving a clear area on the right. He kicked it everywhere which left it thin and not working.

I've moved it so that it is the whole stable now and he still churns it up so much.

I'm thinking of putting it width ways across the back wall but I don't know if that would work.

What would you do?

I have 40 bales of bedding to get through so please don't suggest different bedding!

I could maybe add pellets underneath?

I honestly thought a full stable bed would work, it did at my last yard (this pic is from day 2 after full new bed.... doesn't look like this anymore ?)

Not quite sure what the problem is? He's churning it up so it all becomes wet? If so then yes I'd add a few bags of dry pellets to the bottom of the bed and do a semi-deep litter bed

Yes he is churning it up. It is deep already and I thought by making it the whole stable it would settle and move less (happened in the last stable i had) but its been 2 weeks and its worse than ever

Adding pellets should help make a much more stable base. I would muck out all poo and any wet that comes through to the top half of the bed and leave the bottom half. I tend to do this through the week then full muck out the wet spots at the weekend for my super wet mare

Sounds a bizarre idea but are you allowed to cut the storage door, and add a bolt or similar, so that the bottom bit stays shut and the top opens so you can step over the lower half of the door to get in the storage, that way you can have a deeper bed?

I definitely wouldn't be allowed to cut the door ? v. Good idea though

How big is your horse? Could it be that the stable isnt big enough and can't lie down properly so is spending all the time on his feet and walking his muck through his bed all the time?

Its deffo big enough but thank you :)

I took his hayball out and its much better as well as the base of wood pellets so hopefully we are sorted
