My yard area and stable lights aren't that good so thinking if I can get anything else to improve the light. Needs to be battery/solar powered as only have electric in the tack room and can't leave a lead running through the yard.

Any ideas?

The above link to the post is a bit dated, LEDs are much more effective both in terms of brightness and efficiency. I'd suggest look in Screwfix for solar and look at rechargeable - we keep one of these in the car, it's fab and lasts 3 hours: http://www.screwfix.com/p/ae0183-rechargeable-led-work-light-10w-12-240v/1815d. You could pop it on charge when it runs low, or have 2. They do a cheaper one that's not as bright.

I have a couple of these running off old car batteries scrounged from a local company, just about as cheap as you can get though the bulbs need to be purchased for them and arent covered so you wouldnt want them places where they could be broken easily

I now have a light system running from a generator and that is basically as good as it gets without mains electricity its made the stables a much more pleasant place to be

Another vote for the bedazzled system, I got the ultra bright LED's, 3 lights all connected do the tack/feed room and double feed shelter, and the torch gets me from house to field and back again and just plugs in when I get there.
I also have the clips so it can run off the leisure battery but have not used it yet.

My hubby was given an Inverter and has set up several lights, indoor and outdoor, to run from it. Runs off a car battery and one charge lasts a very long time. Head torch for getting to/from field gate to yard.

Single 10w LED light (4 for £30) , we have six in total running off a leisure battery powered by an 80w solar panel, all done for less than £200 (including wiring, fuses and switches). Other half has recently added a second panel and is shopping for a higher capacity battery. He has also added a 12v socket and inverter, so I can power stuff like my clipper battery charger. He is now on about wind generators and stuff - I think he is becoming obsessed with free power!

I have these from B and Q, http://www.diy.com/departments/bq-fluorescent-t5-hand-held-light/261766_BQ.prd
work really well have one in each stable, then one next hay for filling nets. I can muck out at night after work no problem at this time of year. whats great about them you can move them to where you need them so I have a few hooks out of horse/pony reach round their stables so if I need to see something with more light I just move it easy! only charge them once a week.
