Ok so after some thought I have splashed out and fitted my two stables with good quality well fitted stable mats. The drainage in the stables is very good as they are converted cow stalls. The horses love them and are quite happy laying down and my mucking out time and bedding has been cut down by well over a half.
So what is the best disinfectant to use that will be OK for horses and mats ?
Do you swill yours down daily, weekly, every six months ?
Someone suggested green gloop by fieldguard but we dont have any stockits in out part of the world but would purchase it from fieldguard if any have used it and could recommend it.
Only wish I had done this years ago, for those of you who said they were a good thing you were right glad I asked for your thoughts.

I lift mine every 6 months and disinfect everything with diluted Jeyes fluid.

Weekly they get a liberal sprinkling of Jeyes lemon bin disinfectant.

Grren gloop is fab. We dont lift our mats, havent in the whole time they've been down (3+ years) No need to as theyre fitted beautifully and dont smell

I muck out and put all the bedding up in banks, sweep, then sprinkle over the exposed matting (especially where he wee's), sweep out again then pull the banks down later on.

Green Gloop is excellent and you can get it by mail order from Fieldguard, not cheap but definitely the best. I just use the hose once a week but dont, whatever you do use Jeyes Fluid. It contains stuff that 'rots' rubber and will ruin them quickly and invalidate any guarantee

I put my bedding onto one side and just swill down the wee area with the night befores water bucket. I use a bucket of diluted disinfectant on a weekly basis. I lift the mats and presure wash once a year.

Love Green Gloop! Brings mats up like new and also breaks down all the rubbish underthe, we just ordered a batch of 6 for our yard, it orks out £15.80 each but lasts ages.

I dont use anything on mine. But I dont use mine with bedding very often - its in their field shelter so it just something nicer to stand on than concrete, I only put bedding down if they have to stay in.

I muck it out as needed and very very occassionally have power washed them. Never lifted them as I was told not to. They dont smell or anything so Im not worried about them!

Green gloop is good, another product is Reosan, I get this from a local carpet cleaning/cleaning products shop..... It smells of bubble gum and is used for de-odourising rubbish chutes etc.

Field guard to post out, but its quite pricey so best to club together if you can and buy loads!!!
