Stable mirrors and introducing horse to his new 'mate'

Right, moving on Sunday and have got him a stable mirror as he will be in at night by himself for a bit. He can still see the others outside but he's a bit of a stresser so thought he'd like one.

Question is how to introduce it. OH put it up tonite and just wondering how to play it really! Is it likey to scare the crap out of him at first?
 
I covered mine with a rug while I walked my mare into her box, but only because I had fitted it to the left of the door, fo didn't want her to spook as she when in and caught herself on the door frame. I then just uncovered it and left the formal introductions to her!!!

My friends mare went a bit mad when first introduced to her new mate. She wanted to defend her space against the incomer and got quite agressive towards the mirror. SO it now has lots of tooth marks. She is now how ever in love with her new best friend.
 
Whoops..........It was love at 1st sight for my mare, now she spends most of the day by her mate.......or maybe she is just vain!!!
 
Merlin moved yards on saturday and was quite stressy about being in, albeit for just a couple of hours (more to keep me company than anything else)!!

Finally got round to putting the mirror back up on monday (didnt rush as he took no notice of it at the old yard) and he calmed down immediatly.. stood by it and seemed to be saying 'oh there you are, thought you had got left behind'.

So really it was there as a comfort, but in previous yard he had other horses to look at.... at current yard he is often in by himself as the other horses are out in the field.
 
Update,
loves his new 'friend' and spends hours just stood next to the bloody mirror!

We can't believe how something so simple and cheap at £35 has chilled my boy out, it seems to have an almost hypnotic effect on him, bless!
 
I have a 5 year old sect C chap who gets very stressy when anything is removed from him. He will do mini rears at the door, and has actually put his paws over the top!!

Somebody suggested shutting the top door, but personally feel this would just make the situation worse and lead to further probs.

From all the positive views this would seem like a great idea for him.......so where do you get them from?

Also would they help ease the stress in a trailer/lorry?
