Stable Mirrors

Have an ex-racehorse that weaves and am looking at buying a stable mirror to try to help with this. Has anyone installed one for their horse and if so, did it work? Plus, are the acrylic ones ok or must it be the stainless steel type. Hope you can help.
 
Hi there I have acrylic ones in all my horses stables. I just picked mine up cheaply at a market. I did notice mirrors for sale on ebay - I think they were stainless and reasonably priced. My only comment on the acrylic ones is they scratch easily.
I bought them to encourage my mare to the back of her big stable (20' deep) and it has worked. My 4 tend to spend quite a bit of time in in the wet weather in winter due to limited turnout so it's an added distraction for them along with the salt lick/radio/trickle feeder etc.
 
We bought one for Jack from Amigo stable mirrors online. He wasn't weaving but was gettin wound up in his stable due to being on his own - kicking the door etc.
Since we've had the mirror there has been a huge difference...so much calmer, walks into his stable at night voluntarily and is always looking at the mirror...and no more kicking of the door! One of the best things we've bought for him!
We have an acrylic one which has hardly got any scratches on, had it two months. This is probably because Jack doesnt rub against it or anything..just looks at it. All in all highly recommended!
 
I bought an acrylic mirror from a plastic company- my Dad's a precision engineer, so managed to get it cheaply, direct from manufacture ordered to my size specifications.

Ted has however kicked the mirror once , around feed time and cracked the bottom of it. The mirror also distorts slightly where it was screwed to the wall.

Ted loves the mirror though- initially he was scared of it but now stands next to it for hours staring at his 'friend'. It also stopped him weaving.
 
l have on in one of my stables for my box walking 21yo t/b ...at first he was frightened of it ,but after a few days he got used to it .its an acrylic one and was very cheap....would def recommend them,hes def calmer and much happier when stabled

TBH i would address why he is weaving in the first place - is it when he is stabled if so why not leave him out as much as poss ?
Isnt weaving stress related ?
Anyway mirrors worked for mine when he was on box rest but they are only a quick fix IMO
