can anyone suggest/ recommend an online company that makes name plates to go on stable doors? I've tried e-bay and they all seem to be a little too pretty for my liking!!!

Have a look at the BHS site, Im sure they still do them on there. A friend of mine got one not so long ago and I dont think they are too expensive.

If you're interested in a painted wooden one, we got one from a seller on eBay called 'oosy21' I think. The woman that makes them also has a link to her Facebook on the listings where there are loads of examples of her work. When I ordered, we emailed her a photo of Oakley and she painted him so it had a personal touch. They aren't out and out expensive seen as she makes them to order allowing you to send photos and select a typeface of your choice. If they aren't your thing thats understandable seen as you don't want 'pretty' but there are plenty of metal, simpler ones on eBay too or at least there was when I was looking. You could try a normal sign makers instead of looking specifically for stable name plates too as that might make it cheaper. :)
Heres a picture of Oakley's:

^ That's lovely!

All ours have name plates from Richardson Designs - we found out about them at your horse live, and bought 3 gold nameplates for our boys there a few years ago - they still look new and look fab, everyone asks where they came from! I ordered one for my new mare this week so that it would match the others, they made it & dispatched it so quickly - it arrived this morning and is mounted on wood, looks so smart! Would really recommend them.

A friend sent my daughter one she had done by a lady in Robinsons doing them to order. Hand painted so you could have yours painted on & whatever font for horses name. No idea of ladies name etc but you could contact Robinsons to ask as she's apparently there regularly.

I want a wooden one with the name engraved in script and the the engraved name painted and the whole lot varnished... Can't seem to find anyone that engraves them, most people seem to just paint straight onto the wood, If anyone can point me in the right direction that would be great

For nice plain wooden name plates I use wood-and-wicker.co.uk
I got my house name plates from them and am getting the same for the stables.
