I have a block of 3 stables that has a concrete base at the back of them which has about 10ft surround into my field, I did think that I could extend or make some sort of roof to potentially make a shelter.

I know I would need planning to extend but how would you you go about this cost wise, get planning and extend or just put a mobile shelter on the hard standing? What do you think is the best option?

Not an expert but if I needed it in a hurry I'd probably avoid going down the planning route. Our council are taking months to approve even very straight forward applications.

Will a shelter do the job for you do you think?

I’d just put a mobile shelter or a lean to on it. Personally I’d not bother with planning unless the neighbours were likely to complain. I put two mobile shelters on an existing concrete pad on my yard (took many photos of it first to prove it was pre existing, and I’d already asked for my stables to go on it but they refused). They’ve been there 15 years without ever being mentioned.
