Hi

I'm trying to get as many quotes for stables as poss. i only want 2 stables, and maybe a little lean-to thing to put hay etc in at the side.

but... i'd really like to hear some recommendations. preferably cheap, but most important is that they're good quality and feel nice for the horses...

also, any companies i should avoid like the plague?

thankies..

Hiya

I had two stables put up by Levade Systems (Hartfield, East Sussex) earlier this year. I ordered them one week and they came the following to put them up! Think they were about £2000 for two stables with a talk grill in between and extra deep bottom doors. They do all kinds of other optional extras too at really good prices!

Cant really help with the recommendations but have you thought about just having a field shelter which can convert to stables rather than bringing them in at night all the time (espec with new babe you might not want the hassle). I have stables but never really use them but the field shelter is worth its weight in gold. I can shut them in it if I need to and it has a removable partition.

You could then fence a small turnout area around one side of the field shelter so Iggle has restricted grazing and R gets the rest. Also go for the largest hay storage you can get (I only get 40 bales in mine and it is a right pain). Oh and site the stables / storage as near to a gate as possible (for muck heap removal and hay deliveries.......

Sorry - sticking my nose in probably but it sounds like your set up will be very similar to mine (big horsey for me and smal fat pony with 'special needs' in the back garde, young family, haiving to manage it all yourself...... etc)

ah ha... great minds think alike... this is option two... the reason we were thinking about stables is cos raff is a bit of a stable-addict. he really likes coming in... and gets stressed when left out. though me and OH were talking about getting a very sheltered field shelter, with doors, so he didn't feel too exposed.

we are fencing off an 'all weather' turnout bit, mainly for fatty pants Iggle, but also for when it's muddy as we haven't got as much land as we'd like until we rent a neighbouring field (that's currently set to wheat...).

thank you for hay storage tip... i will update my quotes as i've only asked for fairly small ones... under the strange illusion that i'd be happy getting ten bales at a time... hmmm... come to think of it, on my current yard, i had space for 20... and that wasn't enough...

oooh, exciting... yet pooey pants time too!

Ahh it will be lovely doing exactly how you want it though...

All mine absolutely love their field shelter - its 24 / 12 with 2 big entrances and a removeable partition but they prefer the partition in. They go in it at the first sign of rain and then doze in it in the afternoon sun. I put all their hay in there so it doesnt go anyway and get trodden in to the ground (haybars are great for this). Even my new girl seems really happy with it - her in one side and the big lad i nthe other having a nice old snooze. I also use the rain off the roof to help fill up their water trough
