Hello,

I'm just after a bit of advice on stable roofing - looking at previous posts onduline seems to sag/rot if not installed properly (possibility as doing a DIY job :o) and tin sheeting has condensation problems. Has anyone had any experience of products like duratile, or insulated box sheeting? Or indeed any that are reasonably priced, work well and look ok? We're going to be re-roofing wooden stables...

Many thanks!

Onduline sheeting is fine if it is laid over a roof of Sterling board or similar. Ours has been in place for 14 years and is as good as the day it was put up. There does seem to be a concern regarding fire with Onduline and I am thinking that when we renew it I may go for a proper tile roof.

Put your box profile metal sheeting over Stirling board or similar and it will last for ever -- well, almost.

Do it right, do it once. I've used Onduline which some wise person described as cardboard impregnated with bitumen and will never use it again.

If you are using corrugated iron or box profile on a field shelter, a cheap solution to avoid condensation is to fix a sheet of plastic (builders' damp proof membrane - DPM - is good) on the underside of your roof timbers with 12mmx50mm battens. Cheap, easy, and it works.

That's really helpful - thanks. If you put the metal sheeting over the stirling board will that avoid condensation or do I want the insulated one?
