I’m trying to decide on a stable rug for hunter clipped horse and there are so many out there it’s mind blowing trying to make a decision!

I buy horseware rugs as they fit my boy well and I’m looking at the Rhino Original in grey check but there’s two weights. Medium 250g and Heavy 450g. I will also want a neck cover which this has the option for.

For a full clipped horse is the 250g enough or will 450g be required? Its been a few years since I’ve brought my horse in over winter, he’s been out with a shelter but planning on doing more with him this winter and fetching him in. Just unsure on which stable rug and what weight. Sooooooo many options that I cant make a decision! Lol!

My two are fully clipped and in no fill Rhinos, the WB pony with a 100gm liner and the Connie with a 200gm liner and out at night. Tonight because it’s so wet I’ve brought them in and they are in their daytime 100 and 200gm Horseware Insulator stable rugs and perfectly warm.

Don’t get one with the fleece neck scarf . The older ones didn’t have this.

200g Rhino, otherwise an excellent rug. She’s in it tonight with a neck cover on. I’ll be picking the shavings off it again in the morning.

The liners fit in nicely, so a lighter weight rug plus a 200g liner should do it.

Thanks Lindylouanne. Do you use the 200g weight all winter or swap up to a heavier one?

im thinking maybe the 250g and a liner if colder mid winter?

He has a 300gm stable rug if needed but unless it’s about minus 5 I don’t think I will use it. Likewise he has a 350gm Amigo turnout and has never worn it yet even when living out with a dealer clip.

Tiddlypom thanks for the photo! Not sure my OCD could cope with the shavings stuck to the fleece! Lol!

Going to get the 250g and then use my liners if need more. I’ve got the liners for duo and premier equine ones in various weights so at least I’ll have options!
