My TB is a hot little horse generally so is not rugged as much as you would expect, he is also fully clipped. I've noticed when we've had a couple of cold nights that his neck has been quite cold to the touch, although he is warm under his stable rug. Would you bother getting him a neck cover? I was considering an under rug/fleece rug with integral neck just for the cold nights

Ah OK those two initial replies are enough for me :D :D :D He does wear a neck cover in foul weather with his turnout rug, which doesn't appear to rub his mane out, but obviously he doesn't tend to wear that for long periods of time over the winter

Not for a stable rug, but I do use a neck cover for turnout rug. My horse is a white-maned skewbald so it's purely for practical purposes. For a stable rug I don't think it's necessary, especially as you say yours is a hot chap.

I am one who does use a neck cover. I use the bossy bibs mane cover as my horse is very thin skinned and so far, mane is intact. My horse really does feel the cold, and if he is chilly, will literally drop off overnight. After years of owning horses who needed to be rugged lightly it's a bit of a shock to the system!

My boy is in with a neck cover as he is on box rest, I hate fleeces I prefer underrugs. It is personal choice the neck cover depends on of he is not warm or the stable draughty
