Off to view a horse with me sis this morning! Exciting times.....!

If he is what she wants, we are fetching him next week, dependant on weather and vetting. The isolation stable is 12ft x 12ft, the horse is 17hh. Although my 17.2 Shire X looks FAR too big in it, this other horse isnt apparently as thick set as our big boy, or as long!! Certainly in the pictures he is not as mahoosive! Plenty of room height-wise, and our 16hh heavy cob is fine in it...

Do you think it will be alright for the new boy? I guess it will be a case of seeing....it's just so I know I have to plan to move around etc! All mine live out 24/7, and as he is new and needs to be isolated in case of bugs etc for a lil while, where the isolation stable and paddock is means he can see other horses close by without touching!

Thoughts please!

:D

He'll be fine. At the shows the boxes are all 10 x 10 and the Shires stay in them too. Not sure how or if they lie down though!

My 17hh IdxTB (and mostly Id, so solid build) lived in a 12x12 happily for 10 years.

He's now in 18x12 and it is better, but he was ok in the smaller one as had lots to look at so spent all his time goggling out of the door.

The only thing is he is a lot less messy now as he can poop and then not tread it all in, so it;s easier for me.

Well we had our 17.2hh in a 12x12 stable for a few months (he wears a 6'9 rug to give you an idea of length) and he fitted but we felt he'd looked cramped. We moved him to the coner box (12x 16) and hes much happier in there.

I've had some rather large chaps lodging with me previously - 17.2+ & all had to cope with the 12 x 12's. The only worry I had was of them poss pushing the backs of the stables off the base, but none did. Henry was the biggest, he was in 7ft3 - 7ft 6" rugs... he was a sweetie tho, but built like a rhino!
I'd be ok with popping one in again for a bit, tho would prefer bigger if I could.
Mind you, the 12.2 loves a 12 x 12:D

If you think of the stalls heavy horses were often kept in way back when... obviously not ideal but with turn out and as it is only for a short time :-) Very exciting about a new biggy on H&H. I'm usually on something 14.2-15.3 and not that chunky so love seeing the pics of the giants on here!

He will be fine.
My 15 hander had to live in a 12 x 6 for quite some time as his stable roof came off in the hurricane we had years ago.
Secretly I think he loved it 'cos it was in the centre of everything and he could shout instructions to all the others, and he was a bit miffed when he went 'back home'!:)
