Hi all,

Now I have purchased a new horse (15.1hh cobx chunky leg in each corner type) going from 2 small ponies with our home built stables in our open fronted barn we need to convert 1 of the stables & make it bigger.
They currently measure 7x8ft & perfect for our Shetland & small Welsh a but obviously too small for the new horse.

Options are -
Easy option - move the 1 wall sideways to create a 8x13ft stable
This is easy for us to do but is it too small ?!

Hard option - move 2 walls, beams, door etc. Will need post shoes 4ft beam - a much bigger job to create a 12x13ft

this will leave me with no tie up space outside the stable & no extra storage space.

Would the 8x13ft be big enough ?
Considering they will only come in for the worst weather !

Thank you 🙏🏻

Is it possible to make a pen outside the stable which he could have free access to?
Yes but it would be as much work as making the 12x13 stable so would be better off with that.
I can’t source a 4m beam for the upright, so not sure how I will secure the corner ? Would a post shoe hold it safely enough ?

He's probably in 6' rugs so that's only 2' for head and neck.

I'm sure there are plenty like this that come to no harm but another solution would be better.

Mine is in a stable 14’ x 12’ & plenty of room for him to move around, eat in one corner, water in another. He wees in the middle & poos to one side. Keeps it very ckean.

Back in the 80's and 90's all stables were a standard 12 x 12. In face the next door yard has large horses 16.hh +. We have a few 12 x 12 hh in them you have to take what is available sometimes.
