Just wondered how big your current stables are....am building and may be restricted to 10 x 14 rather than 12 x 12 due to structure dimensions....anyone got similar awkward shaped stables and how much of a problem is it...
Neddy is 16hh & am unlikely to ever own anything over 16 2!
pro's & cons welcome

Thanks

I have some 12 x 12 stables, 25 x 15 and 30 x 40 (half a barn). I have to say i much much prefer having 12 x 12 stables when the horse is in it for 12 hours at a time, so much easy to look after the stable and bedding.

I use the biggeru ones and half barn for the ones i keep in a lot. That way they have a lot of space to walk around.

BTW i deep litter them all, so much easier and a lot less wastful.

I think 10 x 14 will be absolutely fine IMO.

Just now they are in the cattle courts, so 25x30. The proper stables are 10x14, a bit of a funny shape but not seen them causing any problems, even for big horses.

My stalls are 10 x 11 and apparently considered a generous size here. My 15.1h paint was stabled 24/7 in an 8 x 8 at the farm I bought her from, everything was, mares, geldings, stallions, some over 16h. When she was delivered the seller thought I could fit an extra stall in each side of the barn if I downsized to 8.5" wide and was quite serious about it.

My stalls originally housed Standardbreds and I believe they can be quite large horses. I should think your stable would be OK, I wouldn't have a problem putting a 16h in there.

My stables over here are only 10 X 12 and they are perfectly fine for any of the horses here. The biggest is 16.3hh and he looks quite at home in them.

My stables in the UK were much larger and to be quite honest the space was really wasted by having stables so big.

Over here stables are often only 8 X 8 (as Enfys already said) and the horses adapt perfectly to them.....it only looks a bit odd to us Brits as we are so used to seeing horses in much bigger ones......but the horses don't seem to mind at all.

Thanks folks - that's quite reassuring lots of people have been giving me conflicting advice on this - and was starting to panic that I HAD to build 12x12s which would have meant a big dint in my budget...anyway waiting for the guy to come back to me with plans on layout so will see what he says

Thanks again

Mine are currently 15 x14 really lovely spacious stables. 10 by 14 should be ok. Shadow was in a 10 x 12 and although he never rolled etc if it had beed wider by a couple of foot im sure he would have done.

My stable atm it 11x11 *yes my banks are up too my wasit because he is 16.2hh but hes happy as larry in there, rolls, lays, plays, vet was happy with it too* He will be moving next weekend to a huge stable not just a foaling box but a shires foaling box. We are designing are stables atm planning, 12x12, 12x14 and 14x16 with enough room for min 10x10 if wanted later date.
