Stable Stains - Help, PLEASE!!!

Our grey horse is the filthiest beast known to mankind! We can cope with the body-stains but when he poos (sorry, this is a bit gross) he always dribbles liquid down one (the same) buttock/leg with the result that he has a stained streak on one side.

We have washed and scrubbed and although it does make it slightly less obvious, there is still a distinct streak. It washes off his tail and (unclipped) leg OK but the clipped bum seems to be permanently marked. (He gets it thoroughly washed several times a week but tbh, you'd never know!)

All ideas welcome - we could cover it up, but he goes so frequently that I think any make-up would just get swept off by more ****

Has anyone tried any of the oxi-action type things.....?? (ps - I would test it on my skin first!!)
 
only wash him when you need to? Then at least you can worry about it less?
try feeding him more forage so that he's got less dribbly poo?

used to use Daz on tails - but tails aren't skin....

Chalk?
 
Chalk. I have a coloured who does this and the poo stains are pretty much permenant.

Regular washing keeps it under control - you can put the blue type of shampoo on, scratch it into the hair with your finger nails then leave it whilst you wash the rest. But don't forget to rinse it out later!

Nappy wipes - the cheaper the better - can help get some of it off when he's done it in the horse box on the way to a show.

But to cover the last of the stain for a show or something - use a chalk block.
 
Nappy wipes - a life saver ! I have greys and coloureds and all have the ability to cover themselves in poo stains the day before we are due to go out !! Blue shampoo put on neat and rubbed in and left for 10 mins works wonders and again chalk for the last minute touch overs ! - For great clean grey tails supreme products - blue tint powder - only a tiny bit needed but boy does it work !!

I've used Daz on my grey's body before now without ill effect. I am ashamed to admit it never even occurred to me it might set off a reaction. The results were amazing, so maybe give it a go - you can wash his tail in the rest of the bucketsworth of solution you make up...
 
thanks everyone. Will try all the suggestions - with 3weeks to go before the start of the season we should be able to make some improvement!!
 
The other thing to try is when you have got the stains off, spray some coat shine on. I have a grey on hunting livery and she is always lying in her poo after she has been washed. The bits I've put coat shine on are really easy to just wipe clean again. I use Absorbine Show Sheen but anything like that should make a difference.

Or baby oil!!
 
ive been told hibiscrub is good for that as im buying a grey horse at the beginning of march and she has stains all over her its going to take alot of cleaning to get her back to grey
 
I've used baby wipes this morning (dirty,dirty pony) and they got quite a lot of the stains off. Will keep using them - at 69p for a wad of them, can't not really !
 
I have a grey and use the Cowboy Magic Greenspot stain remover. Use it with a sponge and warm water and it cleans the marks off easily. Shes on shavings and has quite a deep bed. Would says shes definitely cleaner on more shavings rather than less (on top of rubber mat) I buy it from the local tack shop,costs £13.95 and lasts ages.
 
I have a coloured with an eternal stain on her bum as well.

Cowboy MAgic and Baby wipes are good, but the best treatment is - prevention I'm sorry to say.

However - I find that most of the stained hair moults out in the Spring, so it's just a matter of keeping on top of it.

Star's tail is 'supposed' to be white and I soaked it in a bucket of napisan the other day, followed by a super blue shampoo which I scrubbed in and left on for 10 minutes. That helped.
Napisan is a non biological detergent.
 
Jumpergirl - I get mine from my local tack shop Denes country stores in liphook. But as PennyJ stated it is available from most tack shops.
Hayley19 - Please dont use hibiscrub!!! I work in an operating theatre and use it to scub up with and it is very harsh and drying to the skin if used all of the time.
