My mare is going to be on box rest for the next 3 months. She has been on box rest once for a week before and did not really appreciate it! Unfortunately is is completely necessary.

She is quite fussy when it comes to treats/licks to keep her amused so wondered if anyone has used/heard of any great stable toys. She does like mineral licks so am going to get one those.
Have tried one of those balls that roll around and the treats fall out, but even with her favourite treats she gets bored and just leaves it...realised this when i found some lovely rotten carrot it in one day!

Am going to invest in small holed haynets as well to keep her amused!

So any suggestions welcome!

I hang a swede up but its gone within 30 mins! I've bought a space hopper but she wasn't interested although is obsessed with the mineral lick. I walk mine inhand twice a day too.

Our's like molasses seed licks, can't remember the name of them, some 'Mr' I think, You could also try a mirror if she'll have one, never used one on ours but might be worth a shot so she think's she's got company

Really tiny holed haynets, string some apples and carrots up on some string and hang it up, a horse ball or slightly deflated football, a foot ball put into a haynet or strung up, clean plastic milk bottles strung up to push around and make clunking noises with, carrots hidden in the haynet, apples in the water bucket for apple bobbing, an old feed bucket with an old brush or something in, a stable mirror?, and the head of a broom on the wall to rub against is apparently fun! Splitting up feeds if she's fed hard food into one more perhaps also helps break up the day.. There are lots of brilliant ideas on here which I'm sure will start a brainwave so having a search could prove useful :) xx

Uncle Jimmys licky thing - licks in all flavours so far mines got cherry - been in with it overnight and a few half days still a third left and he's still at it. Will never by a likit again, he can bite through one in 2hrs. These things he HAS to lick so lasts ages. Robinsons sell them.

Thats's the one's I was thinking of! Ours have molasses plavour, and do last. Muchly recommended

She might become more interested in the snack ball over time. Nits didn't really get into hers until she had been in for a couple of weeks. I presume the boredom had really set in by then! I put polos in it to make it smell nice to begin with so she wanted to play with it. Now it is just full of high fibre cubes. She only eats polos or horse food. Not into likkits and stuff.Funny filly

She has a mirror too. She seems to quite like that. I give her readigrass/ cut some long grass for her everyday too. They seem to be her favourite things. I also try and groom her/ just hang out with her as she seems to appreciate that.

She was sedated for the first two weeks so if all else fails, ACP is your friend :)

Oh, and have also heard really good things about the jolly balls? They're scented with something and pretty much indestructible. And ditto the comment about giving time with the feed ball thing, they often gain more interest if they haven't got much else to go! At first make the food bits pretty small so they come out easier but then gradually make them bigger so it becomes more of a challenge xx

thanks everyone! I've seen the uncle jimmy things in the shop and thought they looked quite good!!
