I'm thinking of putting Ben on straw he was going in front of his bed but this isn't lasting now and I've tried to deep litter him and its just not working he digs up all his bed and wets spread every where so i took 4 barrows of wet out today pulled my banks down and spread it out, not happy about not having banks but its costing me 2 bales of shavings a week (£7.30 a bale) and its just not lasting. so i thought about trying straw but his laryngeal paralysis has made me think about this more! i don't buy dust free shavings and there dusty straw here isn't that bad to be honest and if i pull the straw bed up every day it will help.

unsure what to do really don't know straw easier and cheaper and on site!

shavings messy, cost a bomb, costs me in petrol and pain to get in and out and I'm taking so much out

what should i do!!!!

All you can do is try him on straw and see... if he's ok on it it will be so much easier for you

yep I do the rubber matting & shavings thing too

my horse box walks so his bed is a complete tip everyday but the rubber matting means I don't have to put so much bedding down in the first place which means I don't have so much to take out!

fantastic

Rubber matting and aquamax.

Henry is a stressy messy TB and I take out about nearly a wheel barrow of wet and mess a day. I only put in roughly a bag of fluffed up aquamax a week, then possibly an extra bag every two/three weeks.

For a horse with breathing issues I would say it was far better than straw and shavings. Plus the wet tends to be better absorbed and not spread to the surrounding areas like shavings.
