Hi ours are in on a night & out during the day - when it gets a bit warmer will swap in for a bit during day & out on a night !!
I just wondered when anyone else who does this swops around do you do it when the clocks change ??

My horse just goes out longer in the summer and still in at night The grass is just too good where i am she'd be the size of a house :P

Ive just swapped two of mine, one was in during the day and out at night and the other was vice versa. With a warm rug on and hay she was fine and is now out 24/7 where as the other is out for a few hours during the day and in as im tring to get weight on him after he went off his feed  fussy horses!!

It depends on the weather and the state of the grass , my two who are going into light work will be out by mid April if the weather is ok , the coming into hard work probally mid May.

My TB usually goes out 24/7 around Easter time as I move him to a yard that allows this.

Not sure about my new ISH yet though, I'm trying to find livery for her closer to home, I think she'll end up being in at night still just because she is such a fatty!

When my oldie decides she wants to, they both go out. Depends on weather, anytime from beginning of march onwards, never later than first week or two of April. Usually late march though, my mare let's me know when its time.

Ours are being kicked out this weekend, 3 spend all year out 24/7 anyway and by this point in the winter I'm fed up of mucking out! :p

Never - pony is a greedy ****** and would explode if she had access to that much grass. Also I don't think she likes being out 24/7. After a few days she's looking to come in.
Through summer she will still be out during the day and in at night.

I'm starting to get to the same stage as you Stencilface - fed up of mucking out - but not enough or grass yet !!! Will have to wait a few weeks & then they will be out on a night - will be strip grazed though :D

We hay in the field anyway for the ones tha are turned out, so will continue that until they no longer want it, I think they will be happy to be out this weekend :)

ours only get out if the fields are dry enough, rarely get turned out when its raining or afer a heavy downpour. but when they do get turned out its from roughly 8am til about 6pm. in summer though they are out 24/7 :)

No hard and fast rule it depends on the weather, hope the end of march, but if the weather is horrid then will wait. Once they change to the summer field she will come back in for half of the day again to keep an eye of weight.

Mine have swapped :D

Tiny Fuzzy now trapped in her stable overnight... dieting still.
HF is now in TF's little paddock overnight - with his hay in the huge shelter in it :)

Means I no longer have to muck out HF (he really is a mucky monster) - just poo-pick, and TF fills less than a waterbucket with her skipping out in the mornings :D

I might change back if weather gets really wet, as the little paddock goes horribly muddy very quickly, but its been lovely for the past 10 days having them like this :)

This time last year I had all my 3 out 24/7 as it was so dry  tho was haying 1 of them

Mine are now out 24/7. It is great!! I'm lucky as no mud to speak of and it hasn't rained for a while, I take pity on them if it pours until about mid March, then they have to man up and deal with it.

Mine will have to be out by easter as i'm going on work experience to newmarket equine hospital, i do have a friend who said she'll help out but i'd rather horse was out so i didn't have to worry and she can be checked on by friend in morning and evening, and get lunged 2-3 times to keep her working :)

Mine have been back out 24/7 for the last 3 weeks.

I judge it on the ground, and we are very lucky as drain very quickly and can walk across my fields in trainers atm!

I don't worry too much about lack of grass as put haylage out, and means the fields are grazed right down before the spring grass rushes through.

And just rug them as appropriate.

Once there is a little more grass and it warms up then I plan to put the girls out. This has been my first winter at my little yard so playing by ear with the land a bit at the moment.
