Stabled in the rain?

Has anyone kept their horses in because of all this rain? Mine are out, were out all last night as well because I couldn't get back up there to put them in (family crisis) I feel so bad about keeping them out in this, I know its sounds silly, they are horses they should be fine, I think i'm too much of a worrier.

They will be back in tonight thou, and my tb got a rug on so she should be fine and my boy is fine without a rug! Stressing over nothing i think!
 
No. Mine only stay in overnight Dec-march. We do have natural shelter though & the older ones rugged as she is a wuss with the cold & was clipped February & not enough coat to keep dry. Daughters chaser clipped pony has been rugless for weeks. Would only stable if field needed it.
 
No (although all the others at the yard are)

Mine is much happier being out and I feel better knowing that she is out stretching her legs, going where she pleases, stuffing her face with grass. Rather then being stuck in looking at 4 walls all day (not a dig at anyone who chooses to keep in, if your Horse is happy being in then thats good!)

I promise you they won't melt in the rain! :p
 
Yes, Donovan has been in all day today. We only have one field which is recovering from the winter after sensible turnout, and we dont want to knacker it again. Also, if I do put him out in the rain, he does one of two things. Either gallop around the field churning it up or stan at the gate waiting for someone to get him in.
 
Nope mine are all out, other horses on the yard are coming back in at night due to the weather. My mum did have to change my yougnsters rug this morning as he is in a lw & she said he was shivering from head to toe this morning so he is now snug in his all neck, but the other 2 still in lw's as they were fine.
 
were out all last nightand today but decided to keep them in tonight as their field is a lake so they wont find much to eat unless they snoorcal although they were perfectly happy they were doing a good job of trashing the field :o

I think I expect to go up the stables and see black and chestnut blobs where the horses should be! :D My tb would be stabled 24/7 if i let her but if i put my boy out, who doesn't mind either way out she goes crazy.

I much prefer knowing they out out rather than stabled, its just the rain is quite bad by me, plus i am cringing thinking of how my field is going to be!

Benson 21, that's what im trying to do. I'm going down to one this year to give the field more of a rest. I rested it quite well this year but this wet weather has ruined it again.
 
If its still heavy rain tomorrow, they will most probably be kept in. Got a super busy day tomorrow, and with a funeral I probably won't be able to get back up there to put them in, and don't want to ruin the field even more plus we've gone all winter with no mud fever so don't want to start now :D
 
Mines out, as are all the others. Grass is good, as they've only just gone onto summer fields. He's been unrugged so found him rather wet and shivering earlier... Threw his MW with neck on and gave him small feed (has daily danilon in it) to warm him up too. It's an open field, quite windy but he'll warm up now with rug on :)

Felt rather mean on his girlfriend who's out naked, shivering and wet. Sadly her rugs are locked away and I couldn't get near her to pop one of my rugs on her with the wind blowing the rug everywhere!
 
I have a dilema, as Mollie's field mates will probably be brought in overnight (owners don't like leaving out in the rain). I don't like Moll being cold, wet and all alone so I might bring her in.

On the other hand, if the rest of her gang are out, she will be too. :)
 
In at night, but then whole yard is too b/c we're trying to save the grazing . . . out during the day rugged up but I must admit I brought the GreyDonk in early today b/c he does tend to be a numpty in weather like this and a) I didn't want the field looking like the Somme; and b) I don't him to either hurt himself skidding about or get hurt by one of the others b/c he is being annoying (he canters up to them, nips them and then runs away while they are trying to shelter under the trees . . . quite understandably they get a bit handy with their back legs when they've had enough!).

I kept mine in today, they could have been turned out but they were looking pretty fed up with the weather as it is just constant rain, also the fields are getting pretty trashed at the moment :(
 
No chance!:D

That would mean that when they went out I would have all those stalls to clean out, forget it. Rain, snow, hail, storms, tornados - they stay out in the lot of it. I do blanket them though if they need it.
 
mine have been in since lunchtime as the field is horrific. Typically it's cleared up since, but I think I'll keep them in tonight anyway as it's either going to bucket again or the field will need time to dry out :o

they've been out all winter, but need stabled in april. Not cool :mad:
 
All in since 6am including the bull.

Cannot see the point in trashing land which is in excellent order. We were so dry it will take a day or 2 to soak through, the last thing the land needs is hooligan horses digging pits and ploughing furrows in it. !
 
well I turned mine out 24/7 in march but since we have been deluged with the wind and rain this last month, I have been bringing them in every day for a few hours. They seem to appreciate it and it has given them a chance to dry off. As soon as the weather perks up I probably wont do it any more.
 
Mine have been stabled all day - turned back out at 4pm, still out and looking happy! They have been out 24/7 from the end of Feb but whilst the weather is so unpredicatable will bring them in during the day for a munch and a dry 'sleep'.

Normally they would be out 24/7, but despite the rain the grass is still very slow, so will hopefully benefit the fields as well if they come in each day.

Roll on summer!
 
Mine are out during the day and in at night as they are all year ( not through my choice yard rules) they go out without fail. At moment in lightweight rugs.
 
I have mine in to try and save the paddocks! I would usually have them out as much as possible but my paddocks are like swamps and we are on clay, so they are having playtime in the arena and for those that need it ridden or lunged but for the most part they are in for the forseeable future!
 
In, for the sake of the land. They're fine out (with rugs if it's constant, driving rain), but the field can't take it.
 
I just brought mine in and they swam up to me!! So probably keeping them in tonight and tomorrow to let the field dry off! Hardly any grass so they are still being fed, putting them out will just be wrecking the field for no reason.
 
In i'm afraid but we have no shelter so the paddocks are very exposed.Horses hate the unrelenting rain and actually want to be in their nice warm and dry stables,with their heads out looking wistfully at the driving rain.
