Stables – making them mobile/towable…

Has anyone every made some mobile stables themselves?

Hubby works as an engineer and can weld etc soooo I was thinking of getting him to build some skids, and then get a ‘normal’ stable and put that onto the skids?
Has anyone else done this or can anyone offer any advice?

The ones you have in the fields on skids already are cheaper than a 'normal' stable I think but don't hold me to that. So if they are it would be a false economy unless there is a reason you want to buy one and put skids on??
 
TBH i havent checked prices yet at all.

My other option would be to find some second hand.

I dont need them as such so i'm in no rush, i have some other land apart from my livery yard and was thinking on putting a few on there as at the moment there is just a shelter on.
 
they pretty much are just stables, on 'skids'.

i paid an extra £100 or something for my skids.
if you genuinely want them to be towable, then get someone that really knows about them to do it. i'd imagine the metal needed would be quite expensive anyway... however, if it's only for planning reasons you could probably get away with making your own.

^^that is very good price! i shopped around for ages and got
two 12x12 stables and a 12x12 haybarn for 3k, incl vat... but only part erected, my OH had to do quite a lot of work. mine was with everythingwood.co.uk

metal cost isnt a worry as hubby can buy it from his boss - they are making me a new ramp for next to nothing

if i tried to put in planning for full on stables i feel the neighbours would object (even though the trees between are about 12ft tall and very full...) as they wanted the land to extend their garden.

Will have a that site.

I've just seen some that have floors fitted in - that kinda shocked me as even if it has rubber ontop - the wood underneath wont last long with horsey wee rotting it!
