Stables base

We are considering getting a couple of additional stables, they will be movable on skids. What do people have as the base for there stables?
Existing stables have plannings with mats on top but I haven't been here over winter to know if it's any good.

I have paving slabs with mats over the top. They were here when I moved in but I think it’s sand and fine gravel underneath. My shelter will have planings with mats for the winter, which I’m pretty sure will be fine as the small pony already has that in her stable.

Slabs laid over sharp sand work very well as a base if you aren’t going to be required to move the stables.

I just have rubber mats on the grass.
