Does anybody use stable boots/ bandages on a regular basis? I have got a range of different stable wraps, bandages and magnetic boots and only use them when necessary i.e. injury purposes, after/ before competition or at night throughout the winter when my boy is stabled.

I have an eventer that is known to occasionally box walk and I think he’s caught himself last night resulting in a slightly swollen cannon this morning, minimal heat. I am considering using the boots every night to prevent this from happening again unless of course, his legs are wet or it’s to warm.

He is booted for turnout.

I have only used stable bandages when my horse was really sick and stabled and his legs were filling up. He was very unsteady on his feet and banging into the stable walls, so he basically had knee and hock cover as well. I would take them off and check his legs were not getting too warm and also cold hosing for the swelling. I have never used them on a regular basis though, sorry :(

I used thermatex leg wraps nightly for one prone to mud fever. He was on full livery at a yard where they washed the legs off when they came in from the field.

As a child I was taught to use stable bandages nightly for the arthritic ones to help stop them stiffening up with cold joints. They were long slightly elastic bandages with gamgee underneath.

When I worked with hunters the lady didn't believe in washing them off after, she brushed the dry mud off in the morning. They were always bandaged the night before (to keep clean) and after hunting (to dry the wet muddy legs) with fleece bandages and no padding. So bandaged about 4-5 nights a week throughout winter.

In all circumstances it worked well and there were no problems.
