stables IN manchester..

Hi there, I'm 25 and pining for the bright lights of the City.. would love the chancy to study again and be closer to friends. But as I live an hours bus ride outside the city I currently have no social life- I'd love to get it back, I just don't want to have to give up my horse because of this, she's the world to me but I do sometimes feel held back. I don't have holidays as I do worry and I couldn't even consider putting her on loan!

Just wondering if anyone knew of any stables/farms/liveries within Manchester, I'm currently in Bury and would like to be closer to the City as there are busses pretty much all night, I'd be able to go to gigs/clubs/actually reclaim my social life.

There seems to be a lot over the edge of Chorlton/Sale but I don't know what's what and need some local knowledge- I've always been a North Manchester girl.

There is a big EC in Carrington - never been so I don't know what it's like?? There are a couple of farms near my work Didsbury/Heaton Mersey area or if you go a bit further out there are loads just outside stockport. I live just south of Stockport and as I said I work in Didsbury which takes me 30/40 mins by car in rush hour and horse is five mins the other way.

i remeber ryders farm, good place but it takes ages to get there.. didsbury/heaton mersey sounds do-able:) do you know any of the names/numbers?
 
PM Nuala. If i remember rightly she has horses Didsbury way.

Be careful, most of these yards are very overcrowded and have minimal turnout, even in the summer, and have an awful lot of liveries who know sweet FA about keeping horses and are more interested in having coordinating jodhpurs and saddle cloths than getting their arses out of bed before midday to feed their animals (I speak from 20 years experience of this sadly). I drive past a biggish yard every day which has the cheek to offer courses on how to keep ponies, and you should see the state of their paddocks- a forest of buttercups and docks in the spring, and wall-to-wall ragwort in the summer. They also rip you off with huge prices to use the hay/straw etc which they supply (ie. you have to use it) and it is rubbish quality. I live in Stockport but keep my retired horse on a farm 15 miles away, so including going to work in Manchester I drive 60 miles every day, but it is worth it as my horse is very happy. At her age, all she needs is a nice big stable and all year good quality turn-out. It is also very handy for the vet.

sounds terrible but i don't even know where they are!
i just want somewhere easily commutable but i have seen a few dodgy yards as far out as carrington and stockport. and no, i'm not talking about the big well known places.
as for lazy liveries who have all the gear but no idea.. well, you get them everywhere.
i wouldn't let myself buy a horse until i knew more than enough to be able to cope with every situation and take owning very seriously, so they're not going to get to me!
*sigh* will i ever find anywhere?

thanks for yr advice though, always appreciated to have someone that's been there and knows how it really is.

I don't want to hijack the thread but if anyone needs any or knows of anyone who could do with some help with there horse as close to manc as possible then let me know. i'm at uni in manchester and with no transport my lack of horsey time is driving me insane!!
 
Hi i am new and I stable my horse currently in Heaton chapel but want to move to a better yard but still in the heatons. What is the yard like in heaton mersery and do you have any numbers of them???? I live in heaton Mersey
