Stables Open day

I guess it depends on what it is to achieve?

Our work stables had a big open day, much of which would not be suitable (display teams etc), but also popular could be a tombola stall for charity, any type of competition (guess the sweets in the jar) or similar. No one LIKES to do these things, but many people are not used to just "being" so will participate just to be busy :D

Why not combine with a charity such as Guide dogs, and see if they would like to visit with a dog, to run the tombola? Or, is there a local RDA? Our local one was involved.

Face paints always go down well, and is low cost / low impact.

Maybe a small dog show?

Maybe a small table top sale of second hand horse goods?

Maybe a talk from a local trainer? Demo?

Without knowing the yard, the clientèle and objective it is difficult to say.

years ago we had an open day at a yard I worked at all the staff did mounted games and races on the ponies, the kids found it quite amusing and they really enjoyed it we also dressed up in fancy dress for the day, as the others have suggested you could do a tombola or raffle to win lessons perhaps.

Thank you everyone. It's more non riding activities that non riders can do. So far the ideas are table top for charities, face painting, pony rides, horse agility display. It's just making it fun for the village so people can come and have a look around

Horse shoe throwing? There is a name for it but I can't remember it. You throw horse shoes at a pole to get them round it, like coconut shy but without the coconuts!
