Hi guys, what with all this snow thawing and the very wet winter we've had the field where my horses live is getting quite waterlogged. The stables are wooden and have an earth floor with rubber matting down, this doesn't seem to the stop the shavings becoming drenched. Any ideas on how to stop this from happening? Thanks in advance.

My friend uses slabs and they work well.

My stable floors are also earth, we have been using easibed (bed put down when it was dry) and find it works really well.

Have you guttering along the back of your stables, I do this & collect the water in a tank, its amazing how much I collect and how much drier it keeps the area around the stables.

When we moved in the stables had earth floors (we're on clay so no way was I leaving it just like that!)....I put down paving slabs, didn't concrete them in or anything, and then rubber mats on top. There a couple that do move a bit when you stand on them

but the horses don't seem to notice, and other than that you would never know it wasn't concrete under the mats.

I actually find they make it drain really well, any liquid seeps down the gaps between the slabs, where on concrete it wouldn't, it would sit there underneath the mats, unless stable was really well sloped.

I got all my slabs for free, from places like preloved, gum tree and freecycle.
