Stabling around London Olympic Weekend - Would this be feasible? Urgent help?

Being a country bumpkin I have no idea if this might be feasible so please feel free to give honest opinions. Our PC branch are pretty certain to be sending a team to the PC team SJ champs at Hickstead which takes place on Thursday, 26th July. We will be travelling from central Scotland and so it is a huge journey for us but will be a great experience.

There are now tickets available for the Olympic SJ on Saturday, 28th July and Sunday, 29th July. IF I was successful in getting some of these how realistic would it be to find somewhere to stable the horses - at least one and potentially four - and park up one or two horseboxes? We'd need to be able to stay in the lorry/ies so a hook up would be essential and we'd need to be able to travel to the SJ venue in London by public transport for the Saturday and Sunday. We'd then head back up home on the Sunday night or Monday.

Does this sound remotely feasible? I would LOVE to be part of the Olympics and we are just passing the door, so to speak. Anyone any thoughts? The SJ tickets will go quickly so any quick leads or suggestions hugely appreciated.
 
I would see if there are any kind HHO'ers in the Kent area that might be able to help you out. You are then the right side of town to get trains direct to Greenwich. There are a few yards in the Eltham/Lee/Sidcup areas but mostly these are riding schools and probably wouldn't be able to accommodate.

You would be mad to try and drive in though ;)
 
I could stable one or possibly two horses overnight but i'm in Oxfordshire so an hour by train into London, Marylebone. It would be an early start but just about do-able.

Very basic yard but parking for a lorry or two.

Hopefully you will get some other, better offers but get PM me if your interested.
 
I think your best bet would be to look for stabling near Hickstead and then take the train into London (pre-booking your tickets!) and commuting in and out.
 
That July weekend is eventing dates?

I have tickets for 28th, 30th & 31st, live in South Oxfordshire and could point you in the direction of a yard that could likely help with stabling & horsebox parking.

Haven't yet decided how getting in yet, would either be train from Reading or drive to outskirts and tube in.

TBH your best bet would be to extend your stabling at Hickstead and get a train in from there.

PS - I can't believe you are going Scotland - Hickstead for PC !!!!! Mad fool ;)
 
Nearest train to hickstead is haywards Heath and its really easy to get to London. Direct trains to Victoria, London bridge and st pancras
 
You get a one day travel card with the tickets which will help with travel costs if going by train (and I wouldn't try driving anyway - I work in Greenwich (very) occasionally and I don't think there's much parking around)

Ihatework I live near you and my plan is to go by train (but from Twyford). Be warned it takes a long time to get there from Paddington
 
hi...I have a yard in Kent about 5 mins in a car from decent MLS. I could accomodate 4 horses as most of mine are out by then and have a big car park where you can park up. I dont have hook up though. Im not sure of the travel plan as were close to Greenwich as the crow flies but Im guessing you would have to go into london and get the DLR...we have tickets for Dressage and havent thought about it yet!!...Im about 40 mins above Hickstead and very close to M25 junctions 5 and 6. I dont come on here that often so if you want to message me on alexbonnell@hotmail.co.uk. please do.

Edited to say re below Im not in the LEZ but lots of yards just above me nearer London are!!

I live in Orpington, and probably the easiest way to get there is to get a fast train from Orpington to London Bridge and then a train to Maze Hill station, which I think is the nearest train from the park... Takes about 30 - 40 mins.

If you had a car, I'd drive to orpington from hickstead (about 45 mins) and then do that journey. Although would be just as easy to go to Haywards Heath and take a train to London Bridge, then Maze Hill - will take you just over an hour to do that.

just be careful if you end up taking your lorry anywhere like orpington as it is in the LEZ (although your lorry may be fine!).
 
I'm based 10/15mins from hickstead and right on the brighton to london main trainline (10min walk/2min car to station). We could certainly stable one, maybe two and have ample parking though if you're bringing a massive lorry it might be a tightish squeeze to get it into our place though we've had pretty large lorries and farm machinery in so would probably be fine :) very welcome to pm me if interested :)

Jump on the train at Burgess Hil which is about 5min drive from Hickstead. lt goes through London Bridge (be the Bedford train) where you can change to get a mainline to Greenwich :)

Hammie - they're shutting MazeHill station for those coming out from London. It is ONLY open to those coming in from Kent :)
