Hi,

My horse hates his stable. He has always been a box walking door kicker but would always settle down and eat his hay/ dinner and get a good groom after a little while. Over the few months he has become worse. He will pace around his stable, try to barge the door open and kick the door. He looks so much more agitated and anxious, desprate to get out his stable. I know there has been a few things that have changed, including the stable block over the last few months that may be upsetting him. The block used to be full but now most of the horses who lived in there are not there now (he dosent like change very much!) . There are a couple of things that I can think have made him so much more anxious but there is nothing I can do about any of these things :(

He does normally come in with another horse and he seems a little more settled but its not long atall before he starts again. Im terrified that he will end up really hurting himself! He only comes in for his dinner just now but I dread if he ever needed box rest what would happen. I have tried building up his time in the stable really gradually (with other horse there for company) but it gets to the point I dont think its safe for him and he goes back to the field.

Does anyone have any tips/advice please? Or does anyone have a horse that just cannot be stabled for any reason?

Thanks for reading! :)

Have you tried stables treats like a ball or a likit you can also put a hole in a swede and hang it from string somewhere in his stable. that's the way i got my horse out of disliking stables she was awful when i first got her it's just takes alot of time and patience for them to relax but i'm sure you'll get there :)

Good Luck :)

No I hadnt though of that - my only worry with that would be that the stable block is not very wide and if he managed to actually get out of the stable he would get hurt. The block is set out with horses beside each other, none infront of him. Although that may be better for him. I dont have the option to move him stables either unfortunaley. :(

I did try the lick in his stable but he totally destroyed it! :o My pony used to love a swede but the horse will just kick it a bit then within 5 minutes I need to pick it out from the shavings! Its really horrible to see, it cant be doing is insides any good getting so stressed either.
