Deer are hunted once in a lifetime, then they are used as part of the breeing herd for conservation of the Irish Red Deer (an endangered species). They've had several vet studies done on the stags which suggest they recover in 3-4 days much like a race horse does after running

Still seems a tad pointless to me though as here deer are a pest and so shooting them controls the numbers... to chase something and then breed from it seems a bit odd.
Do any actually die on the hunts? As that would surely muck up the conservation aspect!
