I am trying to get my stage 2 and then 3, but as a university student working part time and supporting my horse, times are a touch tight on the money front.

a friend of mine managed to get funding (from somewhere) to sit her stages a few years ago, as she earned below a certain threshold, but she can't remember how she got it!!

does anyone have any ideas please? even if i can just get enough for my stage 2, i can teach to get money for my stage 3!

I don't know if this would work for you as you say you're already really busy, but I'm working somewhere on a voluntary basis at the mo, and in return they're going to put me through my BHS stages free of charge - all I'll have to pay is my own membership to the BHS to be registered for the exams, and they're also giving me training - however I do a full day once a week at their yard. So if you have the time maybe see if an equestrian centre near you would offer this? Only other thing I can suggest is (and I have no idea how old you are) that you try and sit ponyclub test B and then A, because the B test is exemption up to stage 3, and I think A test is exemption up to stage 4 - and these are much cheaper than the BHS exams - although doesn't help you if you're too old for ponyclub or if you want to get your PTT. But you can also do young instructor qualifications through the ponyclub. OR just another thought, would you be able to get a career development loan from the government, I don't know much about them but I think as long as you need the money for a couse/exams/training and can prove that you'll be able to earn money after doing it then you're eligible :)

thank you, annoyingly i am too old for pony club now, though i'll definately look into the government one!! I'm not sure if i'll have time when i get my timetable to do a full day somewhere, but i'll certainly look into it.

thank you!

A couple of local college around me have no equine departments (as in no facilities or horses) but have agreements with local riding schools. I did my stage 1 in this manner and they paid for everything but the BHS membership and i also had to pay a discounted rate to the riding school for the weekly riding lesson. Stable management/exams were paid for. I had to go 8 hours a week which i did over evenings and weekends. This was Yale collage in Wrexham is thats any good to you. I know theyhave 5 or 6 riding schools spread throughout the area which they deal with.

Oh ive just seen you in aberdeen so no good for you but someone else might be intrested!

Speak to your local riding school thats what I did and I work there as a working pupil in any spare time that i have e.g when i have a half day off from collage and the weekends and they have said that they will enter me for my stages :) i have got my stage 1 and 2 test in a few months
