Stage 5 vetting - info needed.

Ive just got my new horse 5 stage vetted and it cost £200 including visit/travel cost. Not sure exactly what it entails as i could not be there but i know what they look for. They look over the horse to check for alertness, lumps etc. With a 5 stage every part of the body is checked carefully. the horse is trotted up and down on a flat surface and flexion tests are carried out. the horse is rode and the heart rate and recovery rate are tested. My horse had hoof testers not sure if this applies to all. Teeth are given a check over and anything that concerns you the vet will take a closer look. blood samples are taken to ensure the horse was not doped etc. x rays and extra tests can also be carried out if required. sorry this doesnt include everything but itll give you a somewhat idea of what they do.

Hi
Don't forget to ask for bloods to be taken if you want them to be as it's not considered standard by lots of vets. And if you are planning on insuring for loss of use, and your horse is of a fairly decent value, I'd check with the insurers whether they'll require x rays for the policy. If they do, you'd be better off getting them at the vetting stage rather than after you've bought. Although it can seem like a big outlay, presumably you're serious about the horse if you're getting it vetted, and you can then ask the vet to talk to you if they think the horse is looking like failing on any of the stages before you get to the x ray stage to reduce the risk of doing them unnecessarily...
