Now as a few people know, SJing is not G and my strong point!! However, been mulling a bit (prob a bit too much!) over the last week and was thinking, the last event and actually a majority of comps he has jumped really really well in the warm up, really keeping a good stong canter and giving a nice feel over fences. However, as soon as we get into the ring he dries up on me, and starts backing off everything.

Last year this resulted at us being Elim at our first BE event, now he has got ALOT better and will always go, but sometimes from a very suspect spot which results in poles

He can be a bit backward at home, but generally jumps well, but he just feels really tight and "oh my god" round a course of fences, and I just end up hassling him which prob doesnt help.

Prestwold BE this year he was fab, still had poles but really jumped well. He is more than capable, and has jumped some very decent stuff at home with no probs.

He either comes out and jumps like a thing possessed, and gives a really good feel over fences (not very often!), or completely dries up and feels "OMG" all the way round.

Any ideas?! Sorry is bit of a long post....

From my own experience I have had lessons/clinics from many people(w foxpitt, ross irving,c bartle, ian olding, neil fox, laura stockdale, margot tiffany, mark smith, lindsay gammon nee smith[my old work boss]) and the number one person who gave me the most help out of all these is lindsay gammon nee smith, but with all trainers they all have vast experience but its what you get out of your lesson that counts.I had a issue with jumping myself on a particular horse and I got alot of very supportive help and tuition from my boss-an absolute guru!!!She just has that way of teaching you that makes you ride 100% better!!!!!!!!
If you want the contact details I can give you her number if you personal message me.

I would get out and jump rounds as often as possible.

If you have had a few issues you may get tense (I know I do) so you need to get to the stage where you are both relaxed and confident.

Trouble with eventing is that the SJ can matter too much. Try going down a level and do load and loads of rounds.

I had problems SJ and that was the only thing that helped me. We could do (nearly) any exercise or grid at home and with my trainer, but I needed the practice in keeping the rythmn for a whole course.

Good luck

I am in exactly the same position as you - can't really offer any advice but I am aiming to spend the whole winter SJing rounds every single week until SJ is no big deal! I think that is the only way to do it!!!!
