Hi, I'm new to the H&H forums and am not sure if this is the right place to post but here it is..
I was wondering if anyone had any advice on choosing an event stallion?

The mare in question is a 15.2hh 4 year old TB; she's got lovely elastic paces, active hocks and a brave jump. My only reservations are her typical TB flattish feet (improving all the time as they were completely neglected when I first bought her) and this is something i want to improve on. I want to have a foal out of her now before starting a competative career, to let her mature at her own pace and not push her too young. She's by indian danehill (NH) out of a rainbow quest mare.
I know breeding is an expensive task and must be mad

as am putting my golden heights mare to mill law this year.. I dont do things by halves!!

Basically I'm looking for a stallion that will add a little substance and height to my mare.. open to suggestions!

Many thanks in advance!

Hot Weld is a big horse - TB

But have you considered going down the Irish Draught line??

If you want to email me a photo - I will post it for you??

I would think about using either a warmblood or an ID type to add height and limb. These breeds will usually add a bit of calmness to a hot headed TB and make them more trainable if that is needed. Am definitely not an expert on event types though but so long as it is a correct stallion preferably with a competition record you won't go far wrong.

Looking forward to you learning how to post piccies and am interested in the Mill Law baby for next year! Good luck!

hehehe

or you could go down the delphipuppy route and use treliver decanter (and I've got a fab. 2yr old by him that will event and Derek has added height (2yr old is now 15.2 at 23 months out of a 14hh mare), substance and movement to the mare).

temp. is absolutely wonderful

the other place to look is brendon hill event stallions - they stand It's Without Doubt, and other TB and near TB tracing back to Ben Faerie the sire of Priceless that was ridden by Ginny Leng

Super stallion. Looked at him for Amy. Passed - but like him very much.

had a horse by him that was killed - oooooddddles of talent for eventing and his dam wasn't anything special at all

Ben Faerie bloodlines speak for themselves (for those of us old enough to remember.......!!)

I have looked into using Jumbo but wasn't sure how big to go as it would be her first foal.
Also quite liked to look of the Trak stallion Contis, is young so unproven and wasn't sure if he'd add any substance..

If you want to add substance, there is only one way to go - The Cleveland Bay way!!!!!!

I'm going to agree here, a friend of mine used to have a wonderful CB x TB that had so much talent!

If you are already sending one mare to twemlows why not look at Jigolo whos is standing there as well.
He is by Jumbo but a little more refined than his sire but with good substance.
Showing talent eventing as well.

Just realised this is not a very flattering photo..
Thanks for all your suggestions will def be making some enquiries about jigilo and treliver decanter - gorgeous!

Would 16.2hh be too big to put her to?

shes lovely, umm i 2love decanter, but i have a grannex 3yr old out of a tb mare, and hes a lovely event type very athletic and good movement, added substance to my mare. Plus grannex youngstock are doing very well atm, Lucy Wiegersma's Granntevka Prince won the 6yr old Pavo and did fantastically at a 2* this year

I would recommend Med Night Mahout, an intermediate eventer (2 point off being Advanced) by Jumbo - 16hh with great substance and quality and a lovely temperament. He stands at Cliveden Stud in Berkshire. Do PM me if you'd like contact details.
