As you can see, his teeth are definitely going to leave scars.

Dear me!!! that looks awful, I know its different, but I had a similar incident but not a stallion and no teeth marks really, but it healed really well - just a few burst blood vessels to show for it now. Hope she's ok.

thats horrific- poor girl! i read your story yesterday and like many other believe that someone needs to be held accountable and reasponsible.
Thats one big mark on her leg, and i just hope it doesnt affect her mentally and make her self concious in time over bearing her legs in public/swimsuit etc- i remember how body concious i was as a teenager.

Gosh terrible.

I hope you present this to the council/BHS et al.

This stallion needs moving before someone is killed.

I hope the person whose leg it is is OK, I should imagine the emotional trauma is as bad, if not worse, than the physical!

You are all really brave after what happened.

My goodness is that her THIGH???? That is huge, I hope it heals soon and doesn't scar too much.

Have you had any luck with the police?

I also agree, that someone needs to be made accountable for such a terrible incident, that girl could have been killed.

Take your time going back to riding out, don't push yourselves or cause more stress in feeling like "you must".

You should email this with the story to the H&H newsdesk aswell as all your local/county papers..i do hope you now have a URN from the police for this attack?

I'm afraid weve had nothing else legal wise happen, the girl who was attacked has had her family calling many places and emailing photos of the attack. My mum returns today and we shall also try and get this moved forward. Other parents may also be calling others but I'm not sure as didn't spend much time up the yard today, checked horses with injuries and left. It really has knocked our confidence!

dont be too hard on yourselves, with an awful experience like that i think most adults would struggle with wanting to hack again. give yourselves a chance to get over the shock and take it steady.

from what i read yesterday your a very level headed young lady who behaved spot on. :)

I would be tempted to take her to visit the stallions owners & show them the damage that has been done (if she was my daughter) I hope you can get something done

Shocking picture. I read your story yesterday, I think you acted in a very calm and responsible way in what was a truly horrible situation. I hope your friend is a bit more comfortable today, but it will be very sore for a long time. A stallion gripped my arm once and would not let go, my arm looked like a bowl of porridge and blackcurrant jam for quite a while, but there was no scarring and there's nothing to be seen now.

Two of the parents did go to the incident scene yesterday as some items were lost in the scrap, like the occasional stirrup leather etc. They took a lunge whip to scare it away if it did come close to them but when it started walking towards them they cracked the whip and it still carried on towards them so they turned back and headed for the nearest farm who confirmed gypsies owned them and even has the gypsies number so we shall be giving that number forward too! And thank you!

Also the gelding who was the worst damaged had the vet out today who gave some antibiotics and a tetanus jab, he also gave some creams etc to help the wounds. The gelding who was only bit once has got some swelling on his belly but he seems happy and not bothered by the small cuts!
And I have to say I'm shocked I stayed so calm, I think it was the fact that many were crying and screaming and someone was injured that some sort of adrenalin rush kicked in and I had no time to cry or panic!

You poor things, that looks incredibly painful. I read your post yesterday and was extremely impressed by your attitude. I just wanted to add that totally coincidentally i heard a similar story this week, a travellers stallion had escaped from his tether and attacked 2 riders and horses who came across him. Both riders came off and their horses made their way home, it was later discovered that one of them had sustained a fracture and is now unrideable. I was told that the landowner has to bear the responsibility for the loose horse. Im not sure how accurate this is or how easy to gain a judgment in your favour, but wondered if it might be of some help to you in pursuing this, as I think you should, if only to try to make people realise how dangerous this situation is. Your friends leg looks awful but, god forbid, it could so easily have been much worse :(

The girl who got attacked said herself she was so glad she took that bite and no one else as if it were to be one of the 11 year olds or me whose very small for my age, we may not have made it through with just a bad leg! Or if a horse was to take it it could of done some real damage!

That wound is certainly shocking.
I doubt if the gypsies who own the stallion actually own the field that he is in. The land owner may not like the idea but he has a responsibility to make sure that any livestock on the land cannot escape, even if he didn't know that they were there. Your parents/adults concerned certainly need to pursue this.
I echo the thoughts of those who have said how well you did to remain calm in those awful circumstances.

That looks bloody painful, poor girl. It's unbelievable that no-one is interested or that no-one can be held responsible for that attack (as in a dangerous animal loose in a public area). But then if it is owned by gypsies I'm not surprised in the slightest that nothing will be done...

Crikey! I am currently sporting a frankly quite beautifully coloured bruise on my arm from one of the stallions at work having a good bite on me, and was feeling quite sorry for myself until I saw this- ooooowwwwwchhhhheeeee!

If that had been a dog that had attacked it would have been pts. There is no excuse for whoevers horse it is. Its a danger to society. Your only hope is probably the local paper at least to warn people of the danger. But please try the BHS and yes H&H.

Poor girl. x

that looks very painful and i hope you can get something done to solve the problems with this stallion out.
i agree with the others about how brave and level headed you were throughout, it must have been a complete shock to be attacked like that.

i wish your friend a speedy recovery. make sure you get good clear pics from all angles preferably so that there can be no 'get out clause' by the owner. not that the owner can deny it was his stallion, they have teeth impressions on your friends leg!

Poor, poor girl!
I read your post yesterday, it made me feel quite ill, you poor people. Fingers crossed it gets out and people are made aware and something gets done. Huge hugs and vibes to all humans/people that were involved :(

Thank you very much all.

It was such a shock tbh, I've never been exposed to a more or less wild stallion trying to protect his herd, so to me horses have always been a timid animal, thats quiet and sensitive. Who knew how dangerous they really can turn just to protect their herd!

Injured rider said leg is like a balloon atm, swelled up and very sore!

The two youngest are definitely the worst affected emotionally as they're only 11! Then the other 15 year old girl whose horse was attacked, then the 18 year old with the injured leg. Then me and the oldest girl seem to be handling it the calmest, which is suprising as we were both on mares which were in season!

All I can say is, we were very very lucky.

Read your post yesterday, and the photos are truly shocking, poor, poor girl! if it is a travellers stallion, unfortunately i think others are right in saying you probably have no chance of redress. When your parents speak to whichever agencies, it needs to be pointed out that if it was a dog that had done that, and the owners weren't known, the dog would be removed/destroyed. just because the owners aren't known doesn't mean you have to leave it to attack someone else. FGS, it could have been a small child on foot, and then the outcome doesn't bare thinking about.

Can I suggest you get lots of photos - some with both legs together so you can see the swelling more clearly.

Your parents really need to call the local newspaper and try and get a campaign going and also speak to your local MP and council all who may be able to help you.
