I have been lurking for a few months, and am very impressed with the depth of knowledge on the forum. Great to know that there are other breeding anoraks out there!

I have to choose stallions for a mare for embryo transfer this year. I have just moved her to the UK and the vet I will be using prefers to use frozen semen to achieve the best timing. I appreciate the arguments for and against this.

I am looking for elastic, athletic, world class, blood type stallions with decent quality frozen semen but not related to Jalisco B (I don't ask for a lot!).

The mare is a Selle Francais mare by Quidam de Revel. She has been successful to CSI*** Grand Prix, and we would hope that there is more to come from her.

Her scope is exceptional, a little more blood would be useful when against the clock. She is tall and substantial. Her mind is as easy and settled as they come. We have a four year-old son by Chin Chin which is very talented, and a Quick Star due this year by ET.

I have a current shortlist of Clearway http://www.sporthorse-data.com/d?i=10417705, Chambertin http://www.sporthorse-data.com/d?i=588833 and Cornet Obolensky http://www.sporthorse-data.com/d?i=10413145.

I appreciate that Clearway is not openly available from the Holstein Verband, but I hope to have access to some from previous years. I also appreciate that the post thaw motility of Chambertin and Cornet semen is not the best.

I would really appreciate anyone's views on these stallions or alternatives so that I can buy the semen in and choose the order that we try. PMs also welcome.

Thank you.

Ooh - I love your choice in Clearway!!!! Would use him in a shot if his semen was readily available!!!! Definitely a must of you can get hold of it!

Hi , me again ! Lucky you to have a Quidam mare - the good ones are as rare as hen's teeth ! Your mare has superfine blood so if you put her to Indoctro, you will get something very sharp. Consider Eurocommerce Zurich - by Berlin, who is a Cassini son and relates to the Capitol 1 line. Motherline is fantastic, Tsarina - daughter of Erina by Concorde. Erina is the only daughter of Warina - mother of Mr Blue and Romulus 16 - who is my Grand Prix horse and still jumping at 21 years of age. Warina is also the grandmother of Larino - its a top, top KWPN line - tremendous power over the fence and rideable at top level. Zurich has already covered 168 mares in 2008. he was sold by the breeder whom I know as a two year old for 250,0000 euros as the Dutch loose jumping champion and there were 19 people in the queue for him. He is an old stamp of horse, four square, big and powerful. His record and family are such that his progeny will sell for good money because he comes from a family of true Grand Prix horses. Try and get your mare registered with the KWPN, BWP - because having an AES registration abroad is worth nothing - your progeny cannot even jump a stallion or mare class there because they just don't recognise this - your mare is just too good.

I think Chambertin would make a great choice. Be very very careful of the Cornet Obolensky semen quality, the Belgian agent for him says it's crap. He got less than 10 mares pregnant out of over 30 inseminated last year and that was with the Zangersheide insemination vet doing the work. Clearway is a good sire but his dressage/movement scores were truly poor (72.13) and to be honest his jumping score of 104.83 are pretty odrinary. He came 24th out of 28 in his Korung.

You evidently want to go Holsteiner, which is the best choice for a mare by Quidam. He brings plenty to the party, but also takes a few things away. Right now, the best value and highest ranked Holsteiner stallion available here in the UK would be Corofino, and as he's available by fresh semen, you'll be well served for your ET's, but there is stock of his frozen in the UK. Being the sire of Russel and Corlato, he's pretty relevant to the UK market, but Corofino x Quidam de Revel, is going to look good on paper in any country.

Hi your mare sounds wonderful. I am keen to learn more about these lines so would be interested to hear what you would think about Lord Z if you are looking for a stallion with blood?

I was just rereading your thread Furioso. Are you saying that you are having a foal out of this mare by Quick Star?!?!?! Or is this from another mare?

another thought would be to use calato who is with Zangersheide with the intension of having something similar but opposite in breeding to Nijhof's Verdi? i also luv Coriano Z good luck!!
