I have narrowed down my choice of stallions even more now.

Patchwood Montana- Chepstow
Lostock Huntsman- Devon
Masterpiece- Glous

So far anyway, if I don't like them in the flesh I shall have to find some thing else.

But my question is, is there anyone in the South West that has breeding experience, that would like to come with me when I visit theses stallions? I would like to think I know what I am looking for and can tell if that stallion would suit Hattie but I think it would be better to have some experienced with me to ask the questions I don't and look for things I miss.
Anyone what to come with me?

I'll come for the trip and gorgeous stallys

I've looked at Huntsman and Masterpice.
Of the two I much prefer Huntsman, Langaller is also a fantastic place and horses are really well looked after. Can you not post pics of mare, might help to see which suits best.

I am I little worried Masterpiece is alittle to chunky for what I'm looking for, plus he has a white tail! Though will still go and see him just incase it is the pictures that make him look big.

This is Hats

I'm 6 miles from Langaller so know their set up well.
I have seen the coloured stallion LH out hunting past our place many times, and he is lovely, not too heavy, with a real head turning prescence about him. He behaves too.
I've used Langaller several times inthe past and can't fault them. They are professional, knowledgeable and every mare has returned in foal without a massive added vet's bill.
Looking at your mare I would go for him, you should get a more refined version (not being rude being honest!) with more quality and good straight movement.
Take a pic of Hattie for Charles Upham to see and listen to his advice.
if you are breeding another for yourself to replace her or one to show it does make life easier i you go to a recommended stud that others haver used previously, and no, I'm not a close friend or on a commission, just another stud owner.. (Oh and just up the road from them 6 miles away is the most stunning dark bay black stallion...hee hee!)

My sister has a mare with Charles who is due to foal in May to Huntsman. They have had a lot of problems with the mare but got her in foal with a surprisingly low vets bill.

Thanks every one. I was favouring Lostock but thought I'd look at a few.
She is going to be AI'd by my vet so she doesn't have to travel very far.

Denwyn_Myfanwy- We actually washed her in the middle of a storm the day before the show these pics were taken at. We used a block of chalk on her legs that day.

Lostock Huntsmen is just down the road from me and he is lovely! His manners and temperment are absalutly fantastic, and he is beautiful, as HH said he is a really nice build. Ive been hunting a few times when Charles was the field master, and Leo is always by far the best behaved! I would go for him, he really is a lovely horse!

Thank you. He certainly sounds the best from what everyone is saying. I'll ring up on Mon and arrange to see him.

I have a colt foal by Masterpiece out of my mare and hes not chunky at all, if anything he looks fine.

What are you trying to breed? Masterpiece is about 16h and looks chunkier than he is, very short coupled tho. He's 7/8tb but the fact he is a stallion adds a lot to his neck etc

If you want to have a look at some pics of what my foal is like i can send you some links of him

I'm looking for something at least 1/2 tb prefer more 3/4.
I think its his next that makes him look chunky. I will go and see him in the flesh.
I want to breed a lighter horse than my mare, a hunter type.

I would love some to see some pictures of your colt.

I forgot to add, i saw in your other post you went to Wadswick, I am just down the road from there so you are welcome to come see my colt if you want to see what he throws

Why don't you have a look at the Rollestone horses if you are down there - they are in exeter I like Fiegel. Look at the Foal cam post. I used to see Masterpiece a lot when he was jumping - never struck me as cobby

Not sure what you want to do with your little fella - but if you want to show etc then my colt went out twice last yr, and entered Hunter foal classes etc, reserve champ at Oxford County show was his best result, always placed too

I would definitely try Huntsman with her, he's a handsome hunter type, think Masterpiece is a bit pretty for her.

Hattie can do pretty too. I don't think one is prettier than the other just different.
I don't know I'll have to see them both in the flesh I think.

I probably used the wrong word

I think Huntsman is more of a horse, though that's just my opinion, thought Masterpiece was a bit showy, less of a hunter, quite ponyish, when I saw him.
The mare we were looking for was a bit like Hattie in fact, 17h, shire x coloured. Could have had a very odd foal.
The problem with Langaller is that they never use good pictures of their stallions. Huntsman is MUCH nicer in the flesh. I'm sure you went to see him didn't you ?
