In a couple of years I intend to put my coloured show cob in foal to hopefully try and breed myself a nice show cob. I would like to put her to something no bigger than 15.2/15.3hh. I don't want to put her to a traditional stallion as I would like to refine her slightly. I have a couple in mind but anyone can think of some others that would be suitable. xx

If wanting to breed another show cob of a similar type id go with irish draught, one i like is avanti amourus archie..heard really good things about him...

I did think of a small ID but I was worried if I went that way it would end up too plain/common. TB or too much TB would make it too fine as she has only got 9 1/2 inches of bone. Not looking at Quarter horses as not my type.

If you think Hillviewfarm Trevelyan above would give you something too coarse just how heavy is your mare or are you thinking to produce a more middleweight hunter than a show cob.

Photos of your mare would help.
Maybe a Connie stallion?

Hillviewfarm trevelyn is a quality little horse I personally don't think you would get course using him a neat compact horse , thanks for the recommendation for Archie but I am afraid he would be too big :-)

I looked at Bridgeford Ferryman for my Irish Vanner type mare, in the hope of breeding a showcob. But I decided the chances of breeding a good cob that measures in is remote.

I now have the most lovely Avanti Amorous Archie filly, who looks like she will go to 16.1 or 2. At the moment she looks to be a hunter type, but a few weeks ago looked more maxi cob type.

I am not too fussed, she is what I wanted, loads of good bone, calm, quiet, willing, brave and very kind. A further bonus is she moves straight and has lovely big paces.

Good luck with whatever you choose.

One of the nicest horses I have ever ridden was a Cob x Arab, it had the bone of the cob but a pretty head and floated like an arab. So I'd say look at H Tobago, he's a stunning chap!

Hello NicolaC
The photo above is out of a mare who is by out of the blue he is half TB 1/2 coloured cob I believe the dam is 1/2 blood he is by our stallion who is only 15.1hh Tobiano Homozygous 80% Tb arab with I.D comming from his sires side his 3 progeny have all been very like there dams but he has refined all 3 and added quaility.
if you would like any more info please feel free to pm me good luck with your search, I really feel in this instance he would be the one for you.

I have a 15hh Irish cob cross and I plan to use Hillview Trevelyan. I plan to also breed a show cob, but if I end up with a small hunter type I'd be happy too! I think you have to be very open to possibilities. I think for an ID he is very smart and neat.

This is my mare. Let us know who you decide on! :)
