hi, i'm thinking of putting my thouroughbred mare in foal for a possible future H.O.Y.S contender. My mare is a 16hh ex racehorse, very well bred by Sakhee. She has a nice rhythmical floaty movement and good conformation. Im not sure who to put her to as would want something 16hh+ and no pure thoroughbreds. i have a prolific dressage warmblood in mind but want to view more choices, (If she was smaller i would put her to Kilvington Scoundrel or Willowcroft Regal Bronze). Ideally i would like something that would be good enough to win county shows and contend at R.I.H.S or H.O.Y.S but im not clued up on the bigger stallions. Any suggestions?

Any pics of her - impossible to say otherwise? To be honest with the market as it is at the mo you could buy a ready made show quality youngster far cheaper than trying to breed one out of a well bred ex racer, which are 2 a penny and worth very little at the mo, the old saying of you buy what you want and breed what you get is so true!!! Unless your mare has exceptional conformation and has done lots then I really would think twice, or you can afford to keep a horse that doesn't turn out as you want.

I know I always recommend him but Groomsbridge May I is doing well with his youngstock showing. He isn't 16hh but he tends to have large foals, that I have seen.
It is much more fun to breed your own though, Alexart, as long as you accept it is a gamble. (Can't do smileys but consider one here)

Demonstrator seems to be a good cross to the tb for a show horse, he can add bone so depends what type of horse you want to show? Will definitely add height in my experience.

Depends on the type of showing you want i.e.RH or MW stamps, etc. As you want no pure TB's that rules out the likes of Groomsbridge May.

Demonstrator is always a superstar but i know he isn't available chilled anymore and don't think Twemlows have a lot of frozen left so depends on your budget, etc.

Dark De Niro would be a nice half bred TB stallion who is also by De Niro and so half dressage bred WB so would add a lot of movement.

Avanti Amorous Archie is a cracker if an ID x is what you want. Couldn't go wrong there at all.

If you want blood but not TB then I would suggest the Trakehner Craig. He could be a show horse himself and I know he is having a lot of interest from showing breeders. http://bellegracestud.com/craig.php

Ive seen plenty of biggish riding horses out of TB mares by Kilvington Scoundrel so I wouldn't rule him out on size alone

I agree with Sally. Scoundrel is by far the most prolific show horse stallion out there. Are you looking to breed a hack, riding horse or lightweight hunter?
HOYS did leading stallion awards last year so that would give you an idea of which stallions were the most consistant in those categories last season

Are you ruling out TB because of possible temperament issues, if so then May I is not a typical TB in that respect his stock all have a fantastic attitude. I'm waiting for one myself out of a Monte Carlo mare who is 3/4 sister to a HOYS winner.

We had a Demonstrator out of a part WB mare who'd have passed for a TB any day of the week. Last year as a three year old in her first season showing she was unbeaten in hand and qualified for the Cuddy, but injured herself in the field so couldn't go. I wanted to add size and bone, he certainly did that!

Hi, thanks everyone for the suggestions but it's between a dressage horse and Kilvington Scoundrel. I've never been too keen on Demonstrator as a friend had a few from him but i never liked the legs of the foals from him. Won't be breeding till next year just doing my research for now :)

Just a note, I'm fairly sure Demonstrator is available fresh, mares must be inseminated at Twemlows. I don't think he has ever had frozen. I stand to be corrected. I think this issue was his semen didn't chill or travel very well however has great fertility rates with fresh

Chancton Golden Colours, 16hh Dark Bay (no white) Anglo-Arab stallion

Prolific inhand horse, British National Champion

Is producing very exciting top show horses and sport horses(both Hack and Riding Horses) all of which can been see, any mare he is bred to will be eligible for Part Bred arab classes (a full tb would mean your foal would be Anglo) opening up a huge amount of other showing classes

Can be seen at Chequer Tree Farm, Collier Street, Kent + his children which are all looking extremely exciting prospects (eldest is 4 this year and being broken and will make a stonking hack!)
