stallion grading

[ QUOTE ]
It is a fact that a stallion will stand a better chance at the gradings if he is shown in a professional manner. Sorry Airedale but we are not talking ponies. A pro will turn out & handle the stallion showing him off to his very best. The judges are not stupid but it will help with marks if the stallion is presented well. And Airedale I wish you would change the record, quote "(unless of course its a factory farmed over ridden 2 yr old from Germany ;-)) You keep making out this is normal practice & it is not. I am not going to keep going round in circles with you over this, as it is completly boring now. And I do believe that there is an ad in the H&H for a 3yr old that is already jumping, the ad shows it jumping. Umm I always thought it was better for their legs to wait until they were 4yrs. So I would say it is not just Germany that produces their horses a little earlier then we would take as the norm!!

I agree with you magic104, on the stallion grading part and Airedales constant comments on foreign breeding, I admire Airedales passion for her cause I do, but she is like a broken record, I think her constant hammering of anyone who mentions, breeding, keeping an entire or similar, when she doesn't know the full story of what they have or know, because usually there isn't alot of info in the OPs but she jumps in with both feet anyway, actually, this probably has a negative effect on what she is trying to convey because you get to the stage where you just roll your eyes at her posts and quite often I skim over them now if I know its a subject we may differ on (sorry Airedale its true, its not just because i've got different beliefs to you - there are subjects where we agree wholey, but you do go OTT very quickly in your responses!)
Not all foreign sport horses are factory farmed and not all foreign sport horses are over ridden young and foreign horses are no more likely to be started too early than ones in the UK IMO.
Its a well known fact that they get alot more help from the government breeding horses on the continent but that isn't the contients fault thats our country's and our cocked eyed governments fault.
IMO when breeding Sport Horses and Ponies, you should be looking at breeding the best you can possibly breed and why limit yourself to the gene pool in one country because I certainly would be importing semen from certain stallions abroad if I could afford it. I would be doing it to improve and vary the lines we already have in this country. I am purely talking about the breeding of Sport Horses and Ponies here, not native breeds, they are a different story and need support of there own. I will be getting semen from Linaro & Aron both in France) for the ponies and I so want to try an get semen from Beezie Madden's stallion Judgement (in USA) - these are some of my personal preferences of choice of stallions! I would also buy abroad if I couldn't find what I wanted in this country. (You know what i'll be doing with the money if I ever win the lottery lol

I find your comments a little contradictory at times as well Airedale because you don't want foreign horses coming to the UK but you seem perfectly fine with the stallions that are already in the country that were bred abroad, wouldn't it be short sighted to say we have enough foreign horses in the country now lets not have anymore when we could be chopping off our noses to spite our faces, if there was something amazing abroad and we missed the opportunity to bring it to this country because we already have too many foreign horses.
I hope you don't take too much offence Airedale, because I do enjoy my cheeky, teasing banter with you but for once I am taking a leaf out of your book and saying exactly what I think!

PS Airedale, you never did answer Magic104 when they asked you a direct question about breeding from my mare.
Also the grey thing - when I have a few hours to spare I will try and find the posts I was talking about

Oh and for your future reference, a spade is used for digging and a shovel is used for lifting....two very different metal earth moving devices!

I agree that a 'pro' would certainly increase your stallion's chances... I have not decided what I am going to do with Troy yet, whether to keep him entire or have him cut. That is a decision I will make in my own time, there is no rush.

However, should I decide to keep him entire and have him graded then I would certainly get someone who is experienced to do it for me. I have never done anything like it before, therefore would not know what to expect or how to react to certain situations.
