Hi all,

I’m looking for peoples opinions/ suggestions for stallions to cover my mare. She is an ID x WB (sire jumped up to 1.50) lovely nature and easy to work with but lacks a bit of oomph being ridden. (She was broken late and I think this plays a part)
I would be looking to cross her with something that has an equally nice nature but adds a bit of sensible spark for riding. She’s also quite heavy footed (the ID in her) and I want a foal that’s a bit lighter.
The foal would be a long term horse for me to produce with aims for being an all rounder specialising in Eventing but rideability is of up most importance! I’ve no desire to compete above 2* but foal would hopefully be bred to be capable of this.

Crowns Pearl of Ace looks to have a lovely nature and I quite like the look of him and also like the look of Party Trick (by Chilli Morning)
I’m looking to see anyone’s thoughts on those stallions and also any other suggestions.
Thank you

You could potentially have quite a broad choice of stallions for her. What has she done herself? What are her strengths and weaknesses? Could you post a conformation photo? Otherwise suggestions are probably just going to be quite random!

Buy the foal you want as a weanling if you have a specific type in mind. Breeding is great fun but you could end up with the total opposite of what you want and will you then be willing to keep it with all its faults for 30 years

Strong points- good nature, enjoys jumping, not spooky.
Weak points- can be quite backwards and is stubborn when she doesn’t want to do something.
I don’t have any good confirmation photos but she has short neck, big ID shoulders and a WB backend. She’s also got a low step and is naturally a downhill horse and not light on her feet. (Something I would like to try and breed out)
Not a great description I know! But I’m just looking for some ideas and to research and see if they would complement my mare.
If it helps I would like a nice powerful, scopey, not too fine but definitely not heavy (nice ISH type)

I'd look at-
Ramiro B- Frozen only but good quality apparently, crosses really well on the Irish mares
Philanderer II- I think he is the best Jumbo son and would be the right type for what you describe
Party Trick is a good idea
Hallmark DS- I'm not a fan of his breeding but again, he'd be the right type

The foal could come out like a twin of the mare then you are back at square one. First rule of breeding is never to ask for something, cause you will get the opposite! (this is a light hearted comment by the way)
