Of the dozens and dozens of 'phone calls that I've made, to stallion owners, in an effort to sort out the terms which I want, I have never been asked for details of any of the mares.
Similarly, I suspect that generally, semen is shipped, chilled or frozen to a stud, AI Centre, or vet of your choice, and again, has anyone ever had the semen owner, whether it's in storage or still in the horse, enquire as to the mare's details? I haven't.
The top 2% of stallions will be able to pick through the requested nominations, but the truth of the matter is that for the bulk of horses, the owners take the semen sales where they can find them, just as I would if I owned a stallion.
It's for the mare owner, advised or otherwise, to make the decision.
