hi guys, this is my first post. I hope you can just put my mind at rest. I have two stallions that I am standing at public stud for first time this year. Vet is coming on Friday to do tests for CEM and EVA. I have never had to have this done before so was hoping someone could talk me through it. One of my boys has defo had them done before and the other one probably not. Both ok to clean sheath and everything. Do I need to do anything else with them to prepare them.
Thanks

It is a pretty easy process. It can be done 2 ways - either the vet sedates him and this allows him to drop his sheath and she can swab him or he is teased on a mare and as he relaxes she is able to swab him. A quick and easy process and is in all about 3/4 swabs to do which literally takes a couple minutes.

Or half an hour with my old boy. You CAN encourage them to drop just by grabbing the end and keeping sustained downward pressure on it, a certain muscle tires - and they drop! Some you WOULDN'T try it with - as they kick like mules at such impertinence.

But I found Junior vet sitting coss legged on the ground UNDER Raj - pulling with both hands - as her back was aching bending over!:D I pointed out to her that he was possibly the ONLY stallion in the world who would tolerate THAT! She's no longer wth the practice so I don't know if she's still alive!

OP, have you considered EVA vaccination for your boys (as long as you never want to send semen to South Africa!)
