Stallion/Rig behaviour - CRISIS!

Ok im really worried about Dinos behaviour...hes very vocal with other horses, nappy, loses attention very easily because of other horses, poos in the SAME place in his field, goes loopy when mares walk past, other day tried hacking out with a mare and he lost the plot, rearing and plunging forward towards it...

anyone else have similar experiences or any other 'symptoms' to look out for? And whats the best way to go about it, any calmers I could try? xx
 
Im pretty sure we had his bloods done when we got him vetted but I'm not too sure, mother sorted all that out.
And hes 4 and had him since May. His passport says that he has been gelded since he was a yearling. xx
 
Mine acts like this, it will get better cause the mares are in season at the moment. There are some supplements you can give to stop this a good one is called rig-away. Just think of the positives that come with a riggy horse such as being gourgeous show offs! :)
 
I have exactly the same behaviour, thought he was just being babyish but he is now 8 and sometimes so bad at comps that he is not safe to take into the ring. I am getting mine blood tested next week. Most people on here seem to rate Global Herbs RigCalm and there are options that the vets can give, things like HRT. Get him blood tested then you'll know either way.

That blood was probably just the doping sample and is untested unless you request it. Mine was gelded at 3 years old and has lived in a herd with stallions so that might be some of it. But better to get it checked out, then you know where you stand.
 
Mine was a rig and I must say what you are describing sounds very similar (I wouldnt know about the hacking as I never hacked out with one then). I had mine for 2 years before we found out and he was operated on as he didnt show any serious symptoms until the mares came down to foal. Personally I would get him tested as a precaution and atleast if it comes back negative you can try supplements to try and help the problem.

ETS he was about 4 when he started showing symptoms aswell.
 
Might be worth having bloods done on him again just to see.

There are some great suppliments out there now for riggy behaviour.

Some boys are just more of a 'lad'. It might be something you have to allow for and work with.

Hope it works out and riggy or not take no nonsense! :)
 
No not a crisis, I had a pony to break in that had been gelded but was still showing stallion behaviour and covering a mare in the field. He had a small piece of cord left, he had an adominal op. free of charge from the vets that gelded him. Their fault. He is now showing signs that he is a gelding. He was in overnight, and as fit as a fiddle when I picked him up the next day. It took a further 6 weeks to get him used to the fact that he was no longer mister wonderful.
 
I have tb that was gelded late and he displayed some of the behaviour you decribe bt he eventually settled down (dont know if this applies to your horse), also i had a youngster gelded bout 10 years ago and it took him quite a long time to settle down for some reason. I have heard about vets accidentally leaving piece of cord or tissue when gelding and apparently this can result in 'riggy' behavour.
