I'm sure there are plenty of previous posts about this but could you guys suggest some stallions please. Needs to be TB, mainly TB or ISH (no warmbloods), needs to inject some quality of movement and maintain quality of mare's jump and temperament. The foal will probably be kept but needs to be saleable as you never know what's around the corner - so to produce an allrounder to SJ/event and Riding Club. Over to you...

Very similar to my spec.. in the end I used Welton Adonis after much searching and agonising.
The Weltons aren't everyone's cup of tea as they seem to be known as quirky, but Adonis is so laid back and trainable it is just untrue. If my mare had been ready for covering they would happily have covered her on the morning of his first BD outing (won both classes btw

), which I think speaks volumes.
Personally I think his stud card needs some serious updating - he's based at Talland at the moment and comes home for stud duties, but since he's been a Talland he's really matured in his musculature and looks quite different to his stud card pics (in a good way!)

Argh... I always promised myself that I wouldn't become one of those people who keeps suggesting 'their' stallion choice to other people.... look what you made me do!

Son of Java Tiger, throwing some lovely stock, great movers and calm temperments. Pictures of him being ridden on their website by Oliver Townend and it was purely personal reasons that he didn't compete more. He's a delight to handle too! Come and see him, he's here!

Stravinsky is a fantastic 16.2 black TB stallion standing at Twemlows Hall http://www.stallionai.com/pages/templates/stallions.asp?articleid=13&zoneid=13 in Shropshire - his first full season in the UK.

He had an amazing racing career in Poland from 1990-92. Out of 28 starts - 7 wins, 6 seconds, 5 thirds & 6 fourth placings. He then went on to compete in dressage up to Intermediare II.
He is fully approved KWPN, Oldenburg, Trakehner etc

Why did he not compete? There are so many young event stallions coming through the ranks now, that to be attractive to mare owners they have to prove themselves in competition.

If you must know, his owner was very ill with cancer; it was the last thing on her mind although she regrets it a bit now, but obviously at that time, that was the least of her problems!
However, that has not stopped some very nice 2 & 3* eventing, show jumping and showing mares from visiting him this year!

Thats sad, hope she's on the mend now. It's good that he's getting good mares, however for my advanced mare I've always chosen proven stallions as I feel she's too good to use on unproven stallions. Thats just my opinion but as the mare can influence upto 60% some will take the chance.

Sorry I dont know how we are meant to suggest a stallion without seeing the mare? The mare is the biggest influence (as I have just seen memo state), therefore without knowing about her no one can make a judgement of stallion.

I only asked - surely it's then up to her owner whether the stallion complements the mare after having a look at it. What is it with this forum and people needing to have one up all the time. I asked a simple, innocent question.

Get off your high horse the reply started Sorry & is a valid question. How are you going to get the most relevant stallion unless people have the information on the mare? For instance if the mare is long backed then you would want to avoid long backed stallions, what happens therefore if they are the ones most suggested? Also the mare may not have enough bone to compliment a light framed stallion. I have asked so as to keep it relevant & not waste time suggesting stallions which would be of no use. I could suggest you take a look at sites like http://www.sporthorsegb.co.uk/stallions/graded_stall.htm or any of the breed society sites which list stallions.

I for one am sick of people who keep taking every comment as a dig or a personal slight. Grow up for pity's sake, I am fed up with trying to 2nd guess how the other person is going to read what is written. But I guess this time it should be very clear!

..... I was just reading down the thread and was going to ask a similar question about what conformationally did the mare need improving so I could pick the most relevants stallions as there are quite a few, its nothing to do with trying to have one up on someone its trying to be helpful and give only the most relevant suggestions.....but I think i'll keep my trap shut just incase I say the wrong thing!!

Seriously though SV, the SHB(GB) website has all graded stallions listed in order of the county they are in, also the AES has all its graded stallions listed too on their website........good luck I hope you find the stallion you are looking for, there are plenty on those two studbooks to choose from.

Magic is right. Look at the mare's conformation and be critical regarding any faults she has. Then look for a stallion who will hopefully improve on these. Then look for a graded stallion and ideally one who is either proven himself or has sired successful stock. Some stallions are marketed as registered with a particular society, but may have actually failed their grading you just have to be careful.

Very biased but Merit Sporthorse GB Champion 1999. He was best newcomer, best TB and overall champion. He is now in Scotland having replaced Accondy, it's a long way from Wales but my mare and I will be making the journey next spring to see if we can get another one to match the current 4yo.
