Stallions and Bone....................

Ah well - here goes. My RID has 10" bone and very short cannons. Sexiest legs ever. BUT, in his younger days when out hunting, I was often asked if he was a part bred because his limbs were proportionate to the rest of him and he looked fit and athletic.

Once lost, bone is very hard to put back on.

I'd like to find a big quality stallion for next year, must throw real quality stock with the very best of conformation , a superb head and eye, lovely front, lengh of rein, plenty heart room and good shoulders and quarters, have plenty of quality bone, good feet, straight and extravagent mover, not carry chestnut, but would accept liver chestnut, flashy if possible ie white socks or stockings(wouldnt use a stallion with 3 socks though), great presence , calm and easy to deal with, oh! and a good record and pedigree if possible - not much eh?

Adore the dun donk , would give anything to have a big quality dun, BUT, put to a black, as blacks carry or can carry the dilution factor, I'd die if I got a palomino or blue eyed cream with doubling up on this as he must be a carrier also, whats his offspring like and from what? plus what would I be likely to breed? the mare in question is rubin royal / donnerhall , real quality, with a natural walk to die for - how big is the dun , how is he bred , what are his achievements, and more important paces , where is he and how much stud fee, I was looking at using overseas semen, our last foal well shes a yearling now is by rousseau, hence I dont want to loose quality, just breed something with a bit of substance and for dressage...

A million years ago, I bred a dundonk section a, from a liver chestnut mare and a grey stallion - was a bit suprised , still she went on to win loads of major shows under saddle, what a stunning pony she grew into. Love duns(buckskins) dislike bright chestnut, palomino and blue eyed creams - hmm dilemma, have you any pictures of his youngstock? Our ruby is very picky you know lol.

Ruby says, she likes foal number 3, foal number one looks like its as irritating as the one she had this year to rousseau - which is still as irritating now shes weaned , mind the weather and not being turned out hasnt helped , but shes stunningly beautiful , so we forgive her youth and 'cheek' , shes over 14 hh now and will be 6 mnths on the 2nd jan , so shes going to be pretty big , loads of quality, superb head and eye , just like her mom, but I want more substance - hence ruby says, if you can guarantee a lovely dun with 4 white socks, she will seriously consider a brief encounter after dinner, wine and a bit of romance obviously.

when are your 2011 foals due? as she would like to see pics of those if possible, before travelling - shes so picky!!!!!

Yes, I want flashy , beautiful, great conformation, bone, ability, attitude, breeding and movement. Hows that foal bred?

I dont want coloured though , not into coloureds, palominos, bright chestnuts , or cremello's with or without blue eyes - blue eyes are a deffo nono

I would scond Shirleyno2's suggestion of her boy Don VHP Z who won the 6 yr old final at HOYS this year. I have seen loads of his first crop and all are amazing with several that scream stallion quality. Another 2 to suggest from them would be their stallion Warrior, who is chestnut with 4 whites and who has won pretty much every age class there was to win and is now moving up to jumping Int classes or the ever fabulous Unbelievable Darco....a jet black, with four whites and a blaze. His ability is undeniable and his foals are proving to be excellent in all spheres.

On the bone debate (!) I always look for good flat bone. I have always believed round bone was soft although admittedly (sp) this is based on anecdotal not scientific evidence. I bred one that popped out with lots o round bone-and he is the only one have bred to have leg trouble. So for me, as my ladies are very sufficent in the bone dept. good flat bone is paramount. then the quantity. I hate seeing big roundy knees!!
