Has anyone had any thoughts about what stallions they will use for 2010 yet? Depending on how the foal turns out I hope to send my mare back to the same connemara pony as the stud were a pleasure to deal with! Or will the recession make some people let their mare have a 'gap' year?

I have a TB mare (Mistertopogigo x Julio Mariner x Crowned Prince) and a BWP mare (Flamenco DeSemilly x Darco x Amaretto I) who I am hoping to put to a showjumping stallion but I keep changing my mind as to who I will use

!!

Would be interested to know who everyone else is using and why.

I am sending 3 of my mares to Bracken Spa Stud stallion Amaretto M a young KWPN stallion. Fingers, toes and hooves crossed that one of the mares does not do what she has just done to me again. Had heart beat scan in foal vet said nice size and looking good. Had her rescanned the other day no foal. Very frustrating as now have to wait till 2011 to see what she will give me. Shall be very intrested to follow this thread and see what other people are doing.

I have a mare going to Dutch Gold, one mare may be covered by my own stallion again (depending on what they throw) or maybe brought back into work and one mare that I keep changing my mind over! I can't decide if I want to go for jumping ability, movements, a bay or a chestnut or grey, so completly undecided! Good luck to all.

OK I want to put my mare in foal again!! Now that the stress has passed from my 2009 born foal! I feel tempted!!! But I also love having her back under saddle, she's going better than ever at home (first outing tomorrow!!) Plus I wouldn't have the time or the money to keep both foals from this year and 2011!! But I can't help looking at stallions!! My friend has 2 nice ones (but very big boys!), plus I'm tempted by a couple of coloured ones!! Zospecial, I think he's stunning AND has fab bloodlines so not the end of the world if the foal isn't coloured! (mare is solid!) plus I like Amour G but that's based more on the actual horse and colour rather than lines so I would have to really hope for a coloured using him!!

But as I wouldn't be able to keep the foal I won't be breeding from her next year, I'll sit tight and probably put her in foal again when my 2009 foal is ready for work!!!

I gave all my mares a year off this year so we can start early next year, plus I have 2 maidens to cover.

Stallions on the short list include Rhondeo, Garuda K, Editorial, Imperio, H Tobago, and Weltmeyer.

My colt will be 2 next year but still far too immature to consider using as I do want to use him on Demonstraor mare to see what he throws, but at present he has no idea he is a colt

We have already purchased semen from Timberlane Huckleberry for one of the Cleveland Bay mares, not sure who gets him yet. The other Cleveland will have Penrhyn Dictator and may also try an ET with Classic or Kings Composer.

Extravaganza who is Exploit de Roulard x Pouchka III x Argentan will be served with Je Taime Flamenco

Little Alice is my real problem as I change my mind every other day. Plenty of time to decide, options so far have included Crown Cornelion, Russell II, Kings Composer, and I really like the TB stallion Desideratum.

I chose Chequille this year but am tempted but Rhondeo for next year or Kings Composer.

Am very interested how the Chequille foal turns out as not seen any offspring from him yet!

My mare is in foal to Super Trooper De Ness, not due until August so not able to do next year- I don't want to send a new born foal to stud.

But 2011, I am keen to use Ohio Van de Padenborre- I require Quidam de Revel and Fleuri du Manoir in the stallions pedigree. But he will be normal frozen semen terms (three straws), and my maiden mare had uterine clearance issues this time. Ohio's fee is 1500 euros- a lot of money to lose if she does not take on three doses!

However- do any of you guys know where Carron Nicholls old stallion Double Vision is? I know David McPherson is jumping him but don't know if he is standing for stud? He is Ohio's son out of a Calypso (my Mare's father's full brother) mare.

Any info would be really appreciated!

Little Alice/Kings Composer how wonderful would that be

. Yet to use him but a gorgeous Stallion. Match made in heaven. xx All the best who ever you decide to use.

Have met Russel, but can't be swayed by a foreigner.

My list of potentials will probably get longer before it gets shorter, but ultimately depends on what my mare produces in June with her first foal. And whether I can resist the temptation to reback her and wait til 2011 to put her back in foal.

We had a gap year this year and didnt cover any mares so we are full steam ahead with 5 to cover next year.
We are actually at our lowest level of horses for a number of years having sold one foal and most of our older youngsters so will need to cover next year as wont have a lot left.
3 mares going back to our boy Groomsbridge May I ,no point in changing the stock sold by him have been a complete delight and new owners very pleased as they are so straightforward.
The other two mares who are related to May I, i have absolutely no idea and am really struggling to come up with something suitable at the moment

I will be using Billy Congo on my TBxID mare, this will be my last foal out of this mare so am keeping everything crossed for a good one for the final addition to our team.

Sally - could you not use your new boy that is arriving imminently on those mares??

[/ QUOTE ]

He's too closely bred to one of them and not sure he would suit the other .
Very fruatrating need to win the lottery and buy a complete outcross .
Its also got to be completely eventing orientated and sadly most of the eventing stallions that i would use dont have the bloodlines to suit.

ok....what about Hever Golf Ranger then Sally?? He is full TB by Efisio...very very nice boy!

[/ QUOTE ]

Hes a really nice chap but need a stallion to AI as wont send mares away and i'm sadly not a great fan of Efisio.
And certainly dont need two doses of High Top ,one in the mare is quite enough.
Theres certain bloodlines i really need to avoid with one.
Would probably have used Weston justice as he would have suited by type by again on a Poetic Justice mare i wont risk Criminal Law in the background the same as i wouldnt add Primitive Rising to her either.
The younger one that is by my own stallion i have the option of using Monte Bellini on as i have some frozen of his in storage but cant use it on the PJ mare and she is the difficult one.
Want TB for her and needs to be very short coupled

my stallion will cover most, but i have two mares im undecided on, one i think is going to mr visto, but i keep changing my mind too!!! going to see what my animo mares throws to saphir du ri assi, may send her back to him.

Nothing carved in stone until mares safely foaled and prospective stallions still in working order for the 2010 season but Ghareeb & Watermill Swatch are top of the list.

Only 'fault' with one of this year's Ghareeb foals was a colt delivery instead of the hoped-for filly. Next time ..

I have a return for Cendy for a filly by my boy, I like his jumping blood. Am debating wether try out my Proset colt on some of the mares I bought in this year, although one is by Welton Crackerjack so will probably put her to JP.
