*Handley Barns Bambee* Here is some of her her pedigree
Sire = Handley Barns Grandee - Dallas - Brilloso
Dam = Handley Barns Bellking - King Canute - Red Canute

We are looking to put her in foal next year, we purcahsed her 5 years ago as a showjumping mare, i competed her very well BS up to 1.20 opens. She is an absolute dream to handle on the ground i'd trust her with anyone. However she can be sharp to ride (spooky, tense) which is why we now compete at just BD.

We are looking for a dressage sire, that has a calm attitude to life, needs to move from the shoulder well as this is a weak point of my mare, she is quite narrow in front but true to her type so a chap with some width here would be good.

She is a graded mare with the AES with a overall mark of 8.71

She has previously bred three other foals her first being a graded stallion:

her second foal produced a graded pony stallion:

and her last foal being a coloured filly out of Hollyland O'Donovan

Here are some pictures of her:
She tends to stand with her fore leg behind the verticle...oh and i always manage to take pictures of her with her head looking mahoosive.it's not like this in real life.lol.

Thanks for reading this far! sorry for long post any suggestions much appreciated.x

I used Mooiman on my mare (who is also AES) because he had a superb temperament and consistently improved on the mares he covered.

The filly is now 4½yo and belies the chestnut mare tag as she is very laid back. My 'order form' was for a better hind leg, more suspension in the paces (Mum is 7/8 TB) and keep the temperament and she has certainly ticked all of those boxes. Her Mum does have a good front end but the filly has improved on her again.

I liked the results so much I covered Mum again last year and have a colt foal on the ground. He has just got a High First Premium at his Futurity evaluation his scores were vet - 8 and that was with a mark down due to a traumatic injury to his hind leg which had caused some uneven muscling (now thankfully resolved).
Conformation 8.25
Walk 9
Trot 8.5
Canter and athleticism for dressage 17 (out of 20)
Attitude 8.75

As a biased 'Mum' I would say his sister has slightly better conformation, her walk is good rather than exceptional like his. Her trot and canter are both exceptional and she is even more athletic than him. Lovely calm attitude and eternally curious about everything.

If I critique Mum for dressage - conformation is an 8 as she is a bit straight in the hind leg but has a good front end. Walk is a 9, trot 7, canter 8.5. She truly is bred to event (and did so successfully in her younger years) but had the ability and trainability to go to PSG/Inter I level with an amateur owner (me) and stayed sound.

Mum is back in foal to Moo again, hoping for another filly!

Another that has a lovely temperament and is getting nice foals is Keystone Rhondeo.
There is also Sambertino who consistently produces a good temperament.
I love the look of Treliver Decanter and have always heard good reports of his temperament although not seen him in the flesh.

Thankyou for your reply Mooiman looks lovely, love his movement so loose and free. He's definately one to consider.
We (my mum and I) saw treliver at a stallion parade at hartpury and he was fab and is on our list for consideration.
we also a few years ago went to view a mare for sale at the stud where he was standing and yes his stable temperament is wonderful you wouldnt know he was a stallion.
Well done with your high first premium, you must be very pleased.

I knew Bambee, and used to ride her son,Tzar - quite a few years ago now!
What sort of horse are you hoping to produce (other than dressage with an improved shoulder/front leg) Do you hope to breed something with a bit more bone than Bambee, or similar to her? What sort of level would you aim to train the offspring to? What height are you looking for the foal to make? Her first foal (Babe - Senator's mum) was ony about 15.3hh I think, but Tzar made easily 17hh, different stallions, obviously! Also, what is your budget for stud fee?

Oh wow! It's mad who you come across, when i was showjumping her a couple of years ago john renwick came up and said i used to ride tht horse (bambee). Always nice to know.
Hope to have something around the 16-16.2 mark. Ideally yes something with a bit more bone than bambee as she is quite light, the offspring would be for me to break and ride and i would like something that would be capable of Inter I in the future.
Our Budget would be £550- £600
I Would love to have the foal graded at futurity too, we took our sports pony foal this year and he gained a first premium, we were so chuffed with him.

Hi Rachel, It's amazing when you discover what people say. Makes interesting reading! Before you got Bambee I had owned her since she was a three year old with a foal at foot. I backed her myself and started her off in the showjumping world, qualifying for the second rounds of BN, Disc, Newcomers and Fox in her very first season!!! Bambee was a very talented mare and I loved her to bits. In all the years I had her I only allowed a very few people to sit on her ..... John Renwick certainly was not one of them! As you know, I bred two further foals from her - the stallion Tzar by Big Time and the coloured filly by Hollyland O'Donovan (still have both). I think you saw them both when you came to view Bambee. Tzar spent some time at Ed Brook's as I wanted him graded. Prior to Ed having him at his place he tried him at my home to assess him. His comment was 'should be able to get him graded but at the moment the horse can't even canter!'. I was shocked as he was being ridden by a local dressage rider at the time! With advice from people around me at the time I decided to get on him myself and when he arrived at Ed's yard a fortnight later Ed said he was so much improved which was a real confidence booster for me. A few weeks after that he impressed the judges at Equicours and was graded. Ed also got Bambee's grandson, Senator, graded that same year with SPSS. I've still got both the boys and had two foals from each of them this year. They both had a Higher First Premium and a First Premium from their foals and Tzar's filly was the highest scoring showjumping filly of the day. Also, one filly presented at this year's Futurity by Senator qualified for the Lycetts British Eventing Young Horse Championships (reserve) and Senator himself came 3rd in the BEF Sire Rankings for eventing. All in all, Bambee's son and grandson are not doing too badly!

Bambee always was a super mare and an excellent mother so I'm not surprised that you would want to breed from her before age becomes a problem. Did you manage to get her to Grade B as there wasn't too much left on her card when you bought her? I really would love to hear how she is.
