Have recently bought a little welsh A, ideally for my 2 year old nephew to get to grips with. He has been relatively sweet, friendly enough leads lovely and is a typical greedy pony.
However the past few times I have tied him up he does a stamp out sideways with his front leg, am worried that if he does this with nephew around hes going to hurt him. So far he has only done this when tied up, if you stand and hold him for 10 mins doesnt even try.
Any ideas?

I am not quite sure i understand what you mean, could he have had flies on him, and stamping to get them off?
Have you tried having a hay net for him while he's tied?
I would be really carefull letting a two yr old run loose near any pony tbh, however quiet the pony, recipe for disaster in my mind, but then i may just be over cautius (sp)

The only thing that springs to mind, is to not reward him with ANY attention, even to tell him off!!!

As soon as he stops, immediately reward the good behaviour, not a quick fix, but will work.

Good luck

How old is he?

It's normally a sign of irritation. My welshy stamps and paws the ground whenever we tack him up. We just ignore him. He's like a grumpy old man complaining about everything but there's no malice in him.

He is 11, and think it may just be grumpy man. I tell him off when he does it, first time thought it was like he was pawing the ground but then the next couple of times its more like hes trying to kick at you... will just persevere with the telling off and see how he goes I think as it doesnt seem to be malicious just grumpy!

Providing there is nothing wrong with him then i would just ignore this behaviour when he realises he will not get a reaction he will become bored. Walk away from him as soon as he starts doing it and dont even look at him when he stops go and make a fuss if he starts again walk away and so on....
No reaction is better than a positive or negative reaction:)
