I was chatting on the yard at the weekend and somehow conversation got round to what we as horse owners will put up with, with regards to services (livery yards, farriers, vet, saddlers) as opposed to what we would put up with in real life i.e. restaurants or shops for example.

People are always posting on here about rude YO, farriers who are constantly late etc but seem quite prepared to accept this where as in a restaurant if the waiter took a long time or was rude we would complain or not use that place again.

What do people think, at the end of the day we are paying for a service, so why if we are not happy with the standard of service do we put up with it. Is it a case of anything for a quiet life?

Have to admit that I have never had a problem with either YO or farrier so not sure what my reaction would be, like to think I wouldn’t tolerate poor service but am not sure. How bad does it have to/did it get before you said enough is enough

I think with things like YO's and farriers it is the hassle of possibly having to move yard/find a new farrier if they take what you say personally.......... whereas if a waiter refused to serve you, all you'd be is hungry!

I've gotten used to it now, yo's don't tend to treat you like a customer or at least that's what I've found on 99% of yards, feels like they're doing me a favour lol and I'm paying. Farriers have always been much better though
