You miss my point entirely Jessrules etc. I have seen several people ride there who have VERY unbalanced trots, all taught by the same person. If you are that unbalanced FOR YOUR OWN SAKE, never mind the horse, you shouldn't be cantering!! I agree some riding schools are excellent. I learnt initially in a poor one but I have ridden recently in a good one. Furthermore I allow my friend, who is a good instructor, to use my horse for teaching on sometimes and I am quite happy about this. Wouldn't allow everyone though.

I agree that having your BHS exams does not make you a better instructor, My instructor when I was younger was not bhs qual but you could not get a space free for anything yet I tried a bhs instructor and 1 lesson was enough I would never have gone back.
