Hi all

I have a TREC comp next week and hopefully another one or two over the summer. One thing that I have never been able to get spike to do is the 'immobility' - you leave them in a spot and they are supposed to stand still for 30 seconds. He always wanders off!

I can't work out how to teach it because if I am walking away I can't stop him walking, or reward him with a pat. Any ideas how I could go about teaching it? Maybe I need to try and do it on a lunge line?

THis is really me thinking aloud here BUT it might just work (miracles can happen lol!) Do you ever do any parelli type stuff? If you played the yoyo game and backed him up with a wiggle of the rope, ask him to stand in his own space, then maybe click and reward? You could progress to sending him further away and for longer. Also, once you get good at the game you only need to wiggle your fingers to get the horse to back out - maybe you could use this as some kind o cue?
I dunno, like i said - thinking alound!!

Just do it gradually, walk away from him facing him, and as soon as he moves place him back where he started...keep doing this, he'll get it in the end.
